Finding the right tools is nice… but this is even better!
I signed off last week’s email/article telling you about how satisfying it is for me to find the right tool for the companies I work with.
But there’s something I like seeing even more -?
When the leader of the organization or company takes responsibility, draws a line in the sand, and gives a deadline for all employees to move into the new tool we found for them.
The team has to be on board - that’s why we found the tools and came up with a process in the first place. But without a clear cut-off point and proper training to get them ready and confident to use the tool, it won’t happen.
When I talk about such leadership, I think of a client of mine, a CEO of a company in the health sector, who needed a new scheduling system. Once we found it, she was very clear about how her employees would get on board:
?? She worked closely with her secretary for three weeks to set up her own schedule on it, and tested it for potential pitfalls
?? She trained her team, and paid for the time they needed to transfer their schedules to the new tool and get used to it?
?? She gave everyone enough notice in advance, but made it very clear that everyone had to move to that new system as of X date.
Of course, there’s an initial cost to it.?
When moving to a new tool, there are potential errors and things that employees will have to test or do twice as a part of their learning curve.

But moving to a new tool that is designed to save time, money, and headaches for everyone involved is worth that initial cost.
I have personally seen how that client, claiming that leadership role, started shifting things for the better in her company -?
Employees are now stepping up to take more responsibilities, she’s negotiating for better deals with providers, and even recently completed renovating her home office (I’ve seen photos, and it’s absolutely gorgeous!).
Employees can grow with and within a company when leadership sees them as a key part of the process.?
You just need to give them the right tools and support to do so.
