Finding ‘the right job for the person’ is pretty challenging too… (Just look at the goings on in Government over the past week or so!) As part of my service at Career Garage, I use my experience & expertise to guide people towards the careers that best meet their current needs, as well as their future ambitions.????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????From a recruitment perspective…????????????????????????????????????????Number 1:-?It’s never quite as simple as matching qualified people with vacant positions they may be capable of doing ‘on paper’, because in the long run, if they’re not going to be happy there, it just isn’t going to be a good fit.??????????????????????????Number 2:- Likewise, it’s not a simple process to find candidates for companies who need vacancies filling ASAP, because if their ambitions & values don’t align, it isn’t going to work in the long term.??????????????????????????????????????????????Whichever way around you look at it, recruitment needs a little more time, energy & personalisation. Guess what though? Most recruitment agencies, companies or organisations don’t have the time, energy or resource to take the personalised approach. Use the Government as the example again, if you like… In an ever shrinking pool of suitable candidates, (with MPs departing like lemmings off a cliff), it's become a case of finding someone, (absolutely anyone, in fact…), to fit into a Cabinet role.???????Whichever way you vote, I don’t think it can be argued that this kind of last minute, desperate recruitment is destined for success… Can it???????????????????????????You have nationally important (often life & death) roles that are now filled by people who are, on paper, ‘qualified candidates’, but the nature of their appointment has been the very definition of the word ‘rushed…’ You also have the candidates themselves to consider, taking on roles which they may well be qualified for, but in reality, are completely not ready, (or even suited), for!???????????????????????????????Madness!!???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????It probably won’t work in Government & it usually doesn’t work in the world of work either. So, what’s the solution????????????????????????????????????????????Career Garage encourages proactive thinking, way ahead of time, in order to prepare the people we work with to make the right decisions at the right time, as they look to find the best possible career path. It’s all about getting to know someone, like, really getting to know them. That’s what sets us apart as a service – we invest the time, energy & resource into getting to know our clients. Personalisation, that’s what this is. We doubt very much that Mr Johnson had the time, energy & resource to match up his new Cabinet with their new positions. As a result, it’s highly unlikely that any one of them will be a great success in their new positions. Obviously, we want to avoid that for our clients.??????????????No rushed decisions, no desperate moves. Only sensible, informed & highly personalised careers advice. (With gratitude to Number 10 for showing the world how not to do things…)
