Finding the Right Fit: Why Company Culture Matters More Than Ever

I help FMCG, Retail & Luxury companies secure top tier talent to drive growth and success while building employer brand, without the usual recruitment hassles
Last evening, I received a message from a candidate, eager yet a bit anxious, asking about the culture of the organization that had offered her a role. She was thrilled about the position, but she wanted to understand what it felt like to actually work there. It’s definitely an important consideration! And really, when we spend over 40% of our waking hours at work, shouldn’t we make sure that an organization’s values resonate with our own?
Throughout my career in recruiting - working closely with top consumer, FMCG, retail, and luxury brands and placing over 500 professionals - I’ve seen the impact of cultural fit. I’ve definitely received rejections from candidates who sensed that a company’s culture wouldn’t align with where they wanted to invest their careers.
When an individual’s values align with an organization’s ethos, it sets the stage for both immediate impact and long-term fulfillment. Cultural alignment doesn’t just enhance retention; it creates a synergy that elevates both the individual and the team.
It’s not uncommon to hear candidates say, “The values of my current organization just don’t resonate with me anymore. That’s why I’m now considering new opportunities.”
My advice? When you’re evaluating a new role, invest as much effort into understanding the culture as you do into the job description. Finding the right cultural fit can mean the difference between a job you’ll leave and a career where you’ll thrive.

Culture as a Foundation for Long-Term Success
Ultimately, cultural fit is a two-way street - it’s not just about organizations selecting employees but also employees choosing the right culture. In today’s hyper-competitive market, aligning personal values with a company’s mission leads to higher retention, better morale, collaboration, and overall success.
The consumer landscape is constantly evolving, and while companies adapt to these shifts, a strong, enduring culture remains foundational. Hiring for cultural fit, paired with the right skills, equips both candidates and employers to thrive in today’s dynamic market.

2 周Love this Jacee Liau. Culture (or "lack" of true culture) and company authenticity are critical to be aware of when considering an offer or walking in to your first day on the job. Have your eyes as wide open as possible about your new environment. This will definitely be a key to your (better and faster) success in your new role.
