Finding the Right Company Culture for You??
Diane Psaras
Executive Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer at VITAS Healthcare
Do you yearn for a supportive work environment that fosters collaboration?
You’re not alone. With so much time invested in our professional lives, it presents a wonderful opportunity for employers to create a workplace that people genuinely look forward to.
At VITAS, we pride ourselves on our strong company culture. The sense of friendship and belonging inspires our employees to do their best today and even better tomorrow, not because they have to, but because they want to.
When you’re exploring career opportunities, the company culture should be as important as the job description.
Key questions to ask when job searching
How can you tell if a company will be the right fit for you? Start by asking:
· Will this job let me work independently?
· Will I have a supportive team and management to back me up?
· Does the company’s mission align with my personal values?
· Will I be recognized for my efforts?
· Will I be encouraged to pursue my career goals?
A company that puts its trust in you
VITAS empowers its employees to take initiative and gives them the autonomy to make decisions throughout the workday. And they don't do it alone. Our teams support one another physically and emotionally. The close bonds and friendships formed are inspiring.
I hear from nurses who say:
“My greatest asset is my team.”
“My team is amazing. They’re my best friends. They are my sisters.”
“We hold each other accountable, but we are also there to pick each other up."

A company whose mission aligns with your values
Being a nurse isn’t just a job. It’s a calling. That's why it’s so important to be part of an organization that shares your passion for helping others.
One of the core values at VITAS is, “I am proud to make a difference.” I am proud to represent a company where each role – nurse, physician, hospice aide, social worker, chaplain, office personnel, or volunteer – makes a difference in the lives of others every day!
When you come to work with us, you will be working with like-minded managers and other leaders who walk the walk. Each one of us is committed to upholding The VITAS Employee Promise:
A company who recognizes and celebrates your accomplishments
Two years ago, VITAS launched an employee recognition effort where peers and managers acknowledge team members for demonstrating their Commitment, Compassion, and a Can-Do Attitude. Our employees took to it immediately, celebrating one another with around 26,000 recognitions to date!
This recognition from peers and caregivers motivates our team and inspires them to work harder, knowing they make a direct impact bettering the lives of others.
There’s always room for growth at VITAS. We support our team members in their careers by promoting from within, encouraging continued education, and providing tuition reimbursement. Annual evaluations and anonymous engagement surveys are another way we keep the lines of communication open so our team members feel seen and heard!
Are you ready to begin your career with a company that shares your vision, celebrates your accomplishments, and supports your career goals?
