Finding rewards beyond the paycheck ??
We’ve explored the first three ideas of Ikigai and now we’ve made it to the final element: what you can be paid (or rewarded) for.?
I know we can all agree that a paycheck brings a cozy sense of financial security that’s critical to support our needs (and wants hehe), but there's a whole universe of other rewards out there that deserve some love and appreciation, not just the dollars and cents. Let’s discuss more below. ??
Now, when we talk about non-monetary rewards, that could mean things like an extra boost of energy, a brighter mental state, and personal growth. Trust me, these glimmers can light up your life just as much, in even more special ways, than monetary benefits.
What fills your tank??
So, let's consider this journey of finding what you can be rewarded for. Think about what fills your tank, beyond just the numbers on your paycheck.
It could be:
- The satisfaction of helping others through mentorship ??
- The joy of picking up a new skill (cheers to lifelong learning!) ??
- Or the energy you get from pursuing a passion project ??
These are the moments that can make life feel invigorating and rewarding. Through exploring this final element of Ikigai, you'll realize that the rewards that matter most are often the ones that are deeply personal to you. They can hide in the little moments of everyday life, like:
- That sense of accomplishment when you conquer a difficult task or setback?
- The bonds built through community interaction and projects
- Or the harmony you feel in a well-rounded work-life balance

Of course, financial security is the bread and butter of being rewarded for what we do, but it’s equally important to align your work with your passions, values, and purpose. When you embrace what truly fills your cup, you'll unlock a deep well of motivation, creativity, and satisfaction in your professional and personal lives.?
So how can you actively hunt for these non-monetary rewards in your professional life? Get involved in passion projects at work, guide and inspire someone as a mentor, or invest in personal growth opportunities that make your heart sing!
When you focus on these aspects, you can find that your work isn't just a means to an end - it can be a source of intrinsic rewards that you'll cherish, too.
