Finding Purpose through Reading

I suffered a massive hemorrhagic stroke in December? 2008. I was, only 42 with no risk factors.? As a result of my stroke, I have visual field cuts. In other words, I lost a portion of my visual field. While I can see what is in front of me, I lost vision in my left visual field.? Part of my rehabilitation was learning how to read, again. While I knew the words adjusting to the loss of vision made it difficult to read, passages. The therapist and my family worked tirelessly with me to help to remember to read the left side of a passage. It took some time and tricks to retrain my brain.? At the time I wondered if I would ever be able to read a book again.
Today, fifteen years after that fateful day I can proudly say I can read without difficulty. Not only do I read, I get advanced copies of digital books. In return for the book, I submit an honest review.
I could not have imagined while practicing reading after my stroke that I would be a book reviewer. And read over twelve books a year. That perseverance, hard work, patience, and a good healthcare team have helped me set and pursue new goals. #strokesurvivor
