Finding Purpose: Lessons from the Tennis Court??

A major selling point for me when interviewing with Vail Resorts was their commitment to development. They provide an expansive collection of tools and resources for employees of all levels to learn and grow as leaders.?I'm lucky enough to be writing this from Leadership Summit, our biggest event of the year! It brings together over 800 leaders to explore topics in leadership and build leading connections across our growing global business.?

This is my first time experiencing Leadership Summit, and the year's theme is purpose.

During today's discussion, two sports analogies were made that I really enjoyed and it got me thinking how the sport I love has a lot of lessons in it as well. Lessons that resurfaced today as I listened to speakers and connected with teams across the enterprise.

?? Finding Purpose Will be a Journey

It's a lot like tennis, full of back-and-forths that shape our path. Just as tennis teaches strategy and resilience, finding purpose is a journey of self-discovery and growth.

?? Start Small: The First Serve

Our quest for purpose starts with small steps. It's about understanding our passions, interests, and strengths. No great career or life purpose was built overnight. Much like mastering a serve, finding purpose takes practice, experimentation, and the courage to step onto the court even when the outcome is uncertain.

?? Aim for the Lines: Embracing Challenges

In tennis, aiming for the lines wins points. Similarly, embracing challenges in our quest for purpose helps us stretch our boundaries and grow.

Looking Forward to Day 2

As we navigate the game of life, we find ourselves volleying between our aspirations and uncertainties. Our journey toward finding purpose is a continuous evolution that requires dedication, self-reflection, and the willingness to embrace change. I'm excited to continue my own journey as I head into another day of learning at Leadership Summit.

Thank you for sharing this, Courtney DiFiore. I loved the comparison. You have a great way with words and I am excited to hear more of your thoughts after the leadership summit.
