Finding the Perfect Cofounder
Perhaps the most under estimated part of the entrepreneurial journey is finding the right cofounder.
People are what make companies happen, and finding the right person or group of people can be the difference between success and failure.
With that in mind, here are 5 things you can do to increase your chances of finding the right cofounder:
1. Look to your Network
It's been said that the most valuable thing any entrepreneur has is their network. Make sure to look internally to people you trust and have worked with in the past as someone to bring on as a business partner.
2. Be open.
If you don't feel that the person is already in your network, you'll have to put yourself out there and meet new people. Finding the right cofounder won't happen by itself. The truth is that it takes time, trust and tenacity.
3. Take your time.
That being said, make sure not to rush. This relationship is something that'll hopefully last many years and finding the right person to work with is a pursuit that shouldn't be taken lightly.
4. Action trumps Talk.
At the end of the day, you'll want a cofounder that takes action. No matter how great their technical or marketing skills are on paper, it doesn't mean a thing if they're not always working on the business.
4. Make a decision and stick to it
It's easy to second guess yourself when deciding if you'd like to bring someone on as a partner. However, once you've made the decision, make sure to stick with it. The last thing a potential partner wants to see is a founder that can't make up their minds. This is especially important for investors.
5. Freemium
It's often hard to know what it's like working with someone until you, well, work with them. That's why I advise doing a test project with your potential cofounder to feel out the relationship and see how you work together.
In that vain, I'd like to invite you to the Kick Cofounder Connect rooftop mingler on August 20th at 5PM. It'll be a great chance for you to meet some fellow entrepreneurs and maybe even meet your future cofounder.
