Finding The Perfect Candidate Post Lockdown

The world is trying to return to normal, however, normal may no longer be what it was before lockdown occurred. Nowhere is this more evident than in the world of work.
Furlough is due to end soon and it is said that with it 2 million jobs could be lost throughout the UK.
With unemployment on the rise and Britain being in a recession, it is more important than ever that you find the right person for the job. Businesses are likely to receive more applications than ever before. But how do you filter through the applicants and find that perfect candidate?
Reel Them In
Be clear and be concise. When it comes to a job description you need to tell potential candidates exactly what the job is and what you are looking for. This starts with the job title, don’t use buzzwords. If someone is looking at a job website, for example, they won’t be searching for ‘Computer Wizard’. If you are using obscure titles, then the right people won’t even be able to find you let alone apply.
When it comes to the actual job description don’t mess around. You have the job title now add the following:
Responsibilities. Let the applicant know what it is they will be required to do. They can then decide whether or not the job is for them and if they would be able to adequately perform their tasks.
Requirements. What experience do they need to have? What form of education do they need and in what field? Would knowledge of another language be beneficial? If someone feels they don’t tick enough of these boxes then the chances are, they won’t apply.
Rewards. What do you have to offer a successful applicant other than the job? What are some of the perks of the job that will catch someone’s eye? From salary and health insurance to free gym memberships and a great Christmas party, there are many possibilities. Consider also the current climate. Are you able to offer remote working and a little flexibility in day to day working?
The Power of Referrals
Using tried and tested techniques are still highly encouraged even with interviews, meetings and onboarding all happening remotely and online. Job fairs and local influencers are great avenues to go down, and of course referrals.
With a referral you will speed up the hiring profile tenfold, you won’t need to sift through candidates and then screen them all, instead, all you need do is give a simple interview. This also means it will be cheaper to hire them, and because it is cheaper you spend less on labour costs.
A referral may also bring about someone who isn’t actively looking for a job, however, when they hear about an opportunity they will pounce on it.
Streamline Your Hiring Process
To find the right person for the job, you want the right person to find them. That’s why recruitment consultancies are here, the very reason they exist is to help you spot the perfect candidate.
