Finding People Who Can Buy From You (Are You Looking Uphill or Downhill?)
Let me ask you this: is it easier to run up hill or down hill?
Don't worry, it's not a trick question.
It's way easier to run down hill, right?
Because there is less resistance downhill.
Most people are looking at getting people to enroll in their online course or coaching program from the wrong perspective.
Let's say you are at zero right now with zero clients. No one has bought from you (you may not even have an online course or program yet). The following is a classic example of how one might look at this situation. Let's say you would like to make $100k in gross revenue. And you are charging $1k for your course. You would need 100 clients at $1k each to make 6-figures. Are you with me so far?
Great.
Most people would say going from zero to 100 is pretty hard. Where am I going to find 100 people who would pay me $1k?!?!?!
That is the biggest fear with making an online course. How do I find the people who would actually buy from me? Because theoretically, if you could solve a problem for people and you could find the people who would genuinely want to buy the solution for the problem from you, then that would be a pretty good situation, right? Again, not a trick question, the answer is yes. :)
But most people don't know how to find these people so it feels hopeless. They look at it like this:
But what if I said out of 317,857,531 people who exist, you just needed to get 100 of them to buy from you. If you started from that kind of uphill and just had to get downhill to 100 of them, would that seem doable? Again, not a trick question, the answer is yes.
Let's say you have a skillset in helping people solve a parenting problem. According to facebook, there are over 300 million people who are interested in this topic. That's a lot of people. And it would cost just $100 to reach 16k-46k of them and get about 327-945 of those people to click on your ad. That's ridiculously amazing!!!
Now does the idea of getting to 100 clients seem possible when you are dealing with this many people? Yes...yes is the answer.
Now obviously this is an oversimplification of how facebook and instagram ads work. But they do.
Here's the thing, back in the day, advertising and marketing was really expensive. That's not the case today, when you know how to do it right.
The key in the game is this simple formula
1) Target the right people (the actual people who can potentially buy from you!)
2) Demonstrate how you can solve a problem they have
3) Solve a problem for them first (don't just say what you could do, show them)
4) Make an offer
5) Get clients
This is the process that is possible today. Again, each step has it's important nuances to them but this is pretty much the process.
I've spent a great deal of time learning about how to figure out who is the best person for you to target based on getting people to enroll in an online course and surprisingly most people don't know about it but facebook wants you to succeed with ads because that's their main revenue source. The challenge with facebook's resources for people like you and I, in my opinion, is they created content in a way that's more helpful to large digital marketing agencies rather than people like you and I. I did an incredible amount of learning about online ads over the last two years and really drilled it down to the most important aspects. And I'm fortunate enough to know a couple of guys who are way smarter than me that specialize in facebook/instagram ads and are my go to guys for help. They have clients that pay them up to 6-figures per month and they are worth every penny.
The main thing to take away from this article, is that with the right targeting of the right people and solving the right problem, you can step into a world you didn't know was possible, and much faster than you could have imagined.
