Finding The One

Finding The One

Recruiting right now is like shopping for a wedding dress.

If you are lucky enough to be hiring right now, there are so many options to choose from. It’s like walking into a wedding dress shop, surrounded by beautiful dresses, but you can only choose one!

I’m sure you’ve had hundreds of applications to your live vacancy.

But selecting the candidates to interview from their CV is a little like looking at wedding dresses on the hanger and thinking you don’t like lace, this one’s too glitzy, this one’s too plain, some might be out of your price range. But there’s no price tag!

You won’t really know if it’s a good fit until you know until you try them on.

So you select a few you think you like the look of, and spend time trying them on whilst others wait patiently.

Some of these dresses are really not right, and they seemed so promising on the hanger. Some of them are are great but just not quite right.

So what do you do to find The One?

Lean on the expert!

Ask the person who sees wedding dresses everyday what is available that matches what you are looking for. Your perfect dress might not exist but ask them to surprise you. You might be able to make some alterations or you may have to make a compromise when presented with the reality of what exists in the world of wedding dresses.

And when you do you’ll find The One!

The decision is yours but we can present you with the right fit, the right price tag to the right specification – we might even surprise you by presenting something you didn’t even know you needed.

They have feelings and make decisions - so we’ll help communicate with them throughout the journey so their experience with you and your brand is a really pleasant one.

Having watched (under duress) the said program with my wife this analogy needs to go further. How do you find the one? A beautiful wedding dress does not mean the person wearing it is the right one. A great CV or profile does not mean the person is right for your business. Recruiters need to find better, smarter ways of shortlisting candidates rather than running CVs through software. I could have worked on a 1000 projects but delivered nothing. Ask your candidates real questions.

I can't relate to literally anything on your post. Is applying for a job anything like buying a pricey suit is as close as I can get. Your issue seems like a bit of a snowflake first world problem tbh.

Can you help me find an A-line dress? I’d like a fitted bodice through to the waist and then it gets fuller from the waist down. I’d also like an?asymmetric neckline showing off a little shoulder and bust but remaining modest.. asking for a friend : )

Lianne Saxton has put me through enough episodes of "Say yes to the dress" for me to know that this is a very accurate comparison!
