FINDING A NEW JOB

FINDING A NEW JOB

The world of social media has changed the dynamics, and now so has AI,?It’s moved things to a completely different paradigm.

Not knowing what the new rules are keeps you on the wrong side of the hedge. ??Doing nothing, standing still and hoping someone will reach out and offer you a job will not work. Even applying for loads of roles with the same CV and getting now where is not good enough.

Getting a job today has never been harder. In the past we all used our network to find our next role.? Those doors are largely closed these days, so we must do something different, but what?

I’m not saying I’ve got a ‘magic wand’ and I will deliver a new role in the morning for you.

But doing something different and getting you from the back of the queue to the front, is the goal I’m looking to help you with.

?

DOING SOMETHING DIFFERENT – BEING SEEN

Doing the same thing that has not delivered the results you want is insane you have to do something different to get better results.

I advocate changing your CV, setting yourself apart from the herd. Being accepted by the AI and the ATS systems and telling your story and getting the engagement you are looking for with the hiring managers, getting into the process and onto the ‘Shortlist’.?

After that it’s more about your communication skills, do they LIKE YOU, do they TRUST YOU and do they KNOW enough about you, are you a fit for the team and the company culture.

But GETTING SEEN is just the first thing you need to sort out and your CV is the cornerstone that you need to get right. It must be different from everyone else for you to stand out.? Ending up in a pile with twenty (20+) plus other people with the same skills and similar experience won’t get them to choose you. You need to be different, and YOU NEED TO STAND OUT AND BE SEEN.

JOB ADVERTS

These days job adverts applications and I include LinkedIn here have learnt the lessons from all the dating apps they have complex algorithms.? It takes time to be seen, and find a match, we must be our own authentic self when we engage. You are applying for jobs that you think are a match to what you are looking for and clients are looking at you, to see if you are a match for what they are looking for.

When they find a match, they go a validate this on the main application, they go and check and look to validate you on LinkedIn. It can be skills and experience, location, what you look like and what you say and speak about, your comments and the things you post and comment upon. They are looking to validate and see if they LIKE, TRUST and get to KNOW you before they arrange a call. So like on the dating apps don’t put pictures of the fish you caught, as a guy, there are things that are acceptable and things that aren’t.

BIAS

We have to deal with so much BIAS in the job marketplace, it’s becoming harder to get noticed, even if you’re fantastic and awesome at the job you normally do, getting a new one is hard. When it comes to securing a job, several types of bias—both conscious and unconscious—can affect the hiring process. Here are some of the main types of bias that job applicants may need to overcome:

?

1. Affinity Bias (Similarity Bias) ??????????????????????????? 11. Parental and Family Status Bias

2. Confirmation Bias????????????????????????????????????????????????? 12. Height and Weight Bias

3. Halo Effect and Horns Effect??????????????????????????? 13. Accent Bias

4. Gender Bias??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? 14. Social Class Bias

5. Racial and Ethnic Bias????????????????????????????????????????? 15. Employment History Bias ?(Unemployment Bias)

6. Age Bias??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? 16. Personal Pronoun Bias (LGBTQ+ Bias)

7. Educational Bias???????????????????????????????????????????????????? 17. Mental Health Bias

8. Name Bias?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? 18. Credentialism Bias

9. Attractiveness Bias??????????????????????????????????????????????? 19. Salary History Bias

10. Disability Bias???????????????????????????????????????????????????????? 20. Regional Bias

?

Cognitive bias is a mental shortcut that influences our thinking and decision-making, leading us to process information in a selective and subjective manner, often resulting in inaccurate or irrational judgments.? Clients are guilty of this all the time but its often based on the information that we provide, so we have to learn to give the information that we want them to have.

There is no magic solution, it takes hard work, and you must be persistent and do it consistently and use the things you have, to open the channels and re-invigorate your networks. Being seen and connected is key, and getting noticed allowing people to verify you and learn about you and your behaviour,? and allow them to validate you. If they don’t have enough information, how can they KNOW, TRUST AND LIKE you, because they need to do this to move you forward in the process.
