Finding My Path: A Journey Through Life and Career
I really came to the AV industry in a roundabout way. I have an undergraduate degree in theater and then an MBA in marketing and strategy, initially thinking I would stay in the entertainment industry. However, my early career plans were upended when my younger sister was killed in a robbery. Her tragic death, when I was only 26, threw my whole early career process out the window.
In the aftermath, I took a while to find my way, trying a lot of different things and moving across the country. Among my varied experiences, I even co-owned a fitness studio for five years. This journey taught me that we come to a career path in many different ways, and it’s not always linear or what we originally envisioned.
My path has been unconventional, but it has made me a good example of not being afraid to jump in, even when I don’t know everything or don’t have all the answers or experience. I’ve learned that uncertainty and exploration are part of the process.
For anyone who might not be sure if they are in the right place, or might have no idea what the right place is yet, remember that it's okay. Your journey is unique, and every experience contributes to your growth. Embrace the unknown, take risks, and trust that you will find your way. You don’t have to have it all figured out to make meaningful progress.
