Finding the Magic

Magical Moments is a non-profit charitable organisation, proudly made with love in South Africa. 

I have been been involved with Magical Moments and their initiatives over the past few months and my interactions with Magical Moments have been nothing short of…well, magical.  For example, in December 2016, Magical Moments organised a Christmas party featuring all kinds of wonderful treats and adventures for 50 underprivileged children in Johannesburg. Seeing the joy on the face of a child who’s never experienced more than a few drops of water at a time, play on a water slide filled with bubbles, is a memory that stays with you forever.

Driving the initiative is Ilana Friedman, a truly inspiring individual who has worked tirelessly since 2004 to create magical moments for abandoned, abused, neglected, underprivileged and vulnerable children in the greater Johannesburg region, aged primarily 2-12 years of age.

Magical Moments really is all about celebrating the niceties in life, not just the necessities. 

Besides the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of children, the events Ilana create offer a wonderful escape into a world where children can play without fear, and experience things others may take for granted. 

When I met Ilana she told me her vision is to ‘fill empty wishing wells, planting seeds for wishes to grow’. The children whose lives Magical Moments touch so gently and so magically don’t even know what a wish is – how could they possibly have a dream? These children have no reference point. To quote Ilana – “Magical Moments aims to put smiles on little faces, treats in little tummies and ticket little taste buds. We want to feed all their senses, taking them on adventures where they can discover another world, one vastly different to their own… to create a happy place…a happy childhood memory. And sadly, this is often the only happy memory many of these children will grow up with.”
