While there are many ways to get freelance work, today we will share an odd one. It is neither new, nor rare, yet odd. It's success rate is dependable on the company you target.
Let’s start with a story:
A company was hiring Graphic Designers for our projects. They came upon several brilliant designers.
However one thing was common in many of them i.e. freelance graphic designing experience. Most of them had only freelance experience in graphic designing while others had full-time jobs in addition to side-hustles of freelancing.?
Recruiters interviewed one applicant who was brilliant in what he did. BUT he introduced an odd way of finding freelance work.?
“He applied to different companies hiring Graphic Designers. In the interview, he would pitch his own freelance services and negotiate with the recruiters to give him the project instead of hiring full-time employees.”
Steps Of The Pitch:
Here are the steps the candidate followed to convince the recruiters to hand over the company's projects to him as a freelance project:
Among other ways and platforms of getting freelance work, this one was an odd yet effective one. You never know which companies have strategies of outsourcing, they do not display this information publicly.
However, if the candidate can impress them, companies re-look their resources, demands and there are chances they might end up giving their projects to the freelancer rather than hiring a full-time employee.
Even if the company doesn’t end up recruiting you, there are high chances they might know of other companies or individuals who are looking for remote freelancers for their projects.
Drawback:
However, this idea has one major drawback i.e. backlash by the recruiters for wasting their time when the job requirements were for a full-time employment not freelance.
Therefore, it is not something to always do, however, research about the company is helpful in this scenario.
