Is finding a contact's number like Finding Nemo?

Sometimes I have felt like finding the correct phone number or address on my iPhone is an adventure like Disney/Pixar's Finding Nemo.
Growing up my Mom impeccably maintained the family address book. You know, one of those paper versions in a nice leather binder. It sat on the kitchen counter by the phone … remember when phones were connected to the wall. Mom would update it with her beautiful handwriting, including birthdays, anniversaries, and other notes she knew were important. I still have the small 3 x 5 version she gave me many years ago.
Flash forward to now … so much of our technology seems birthed from Science Fiction. And like most everyone, all of the details for my contacts – family, friends, and colleagues – live in a Cloud.
Yet – with more than one “Cloud” storing all the information my Mom used to keep in the little book by the phone – it turns out that the “Clouds” can become a mess – like my bedroom when I was a teenager.
Google Contacts, Yahoo Contacts, and iPhone Contacts (and Androids, too) do not always sync effortlessly and elegantly. Admitting that I’m from the “Tech Dinosaur Era”, I have no doubt that a BIG part of the problem was me – or as my favorite IT Guru would say: “User Error”.
Sigh … I longed for a simple and relatively easy solution to create one location for all my contacts –
AND that I can access from all my electronic devices.
Resorting back to an old school Address Book really is not really an option.
I was afraid I was asking too much of the technology gods. And then I found this article from Techilicious – and of course, Just Couldn’t Resist the Name!
By following the simple steps outlined in the article … and putting in some intimate time with Excel for cleanup … I now have a streamlined and stable electronic contacts list.
One Cloud – One List! Woo Hoo!
I am grateful for my Mom's diligence and attention to detail with updating the family address book. Her example nurtured these qualities in me, empowering me to enable others to focus on what they do best.
And now - as our Moms would gently request:
Go Clean Up Your Room – oops, I meant – Contacts!
Happy Cleaning! Cheers,

8 年I'm not surprised you were attracted to an article titled 'Techilicious'! I admit that after reading this post, I'm a bit more excited (and hopeful) to take on my own contacts list clean-up. Thank you for your insight and letting the rest of us know this blissful state can be a reality!
