Finding Clarity on the Shoreline

Just had the most wonderful break this past weekend...my first real one in over seven years
There’s something magical about disconnecting from the noise of everyday life. This time, it was at a secluded beach resort to celebrate an anniversary with my partner in life - no internet, spotty cell coverage, and just enough distance from civilization to let my mind wander freely. It was exactly what I needed.
As I sat there with nothing but the sound of waves lapping against the shore and an occasional sea breeze brushing past me, I realized how rare it is to truly pause these days. We’re always connected, always “on.” And while that has its benefits, it also comes at a cost—one we often don’t notice until we step away.
This time away wasn’t planned as a writing retreat or even a moment for deep reflection. But sometimes, clarity finds you when you least expect it. As I soaked in the simplicity of my surroundings—the rhythm of nature, the kindness of strangers turned temporary companions—I found myself reflecting deeply on my own journey
A Moment to Recuperate—and Reflect
I looked back at my recent decision to write a series of books. Let me be honest: doing this wasn’t easy. In fact, it forced me to confront some uncomfortable truths about my own career path. There were moments when I questioned whether anyone would care about my story or if sharing my vulnerabilities would resonate with others. But as I sat under the shade of a palm tree, watching the tide roll in and out, I remembered why I started this project in the first place.
I wanted to create something real—something that could help people navigate their own transitions without feeling like they have to hit the reset button on everything they’ve built. Too often, we’re told that reinvention means starting over completely, abandoning what came before. But what if it doesn’t? What if reinvention is less about erasing your past and more about reshaping it into something new?
Without the distractions of emails, social media, or endless notifications, I had space to think about the stories I’ve heard from so many professionals over the years—people who felt stuck, unsure of how to move forward without losing themselves in the process. Their struggles reminded me of my own, and they fueled my desire to share and hopefully help through the pages of my book.
Lessons from the Beach
Being disconnected gave me perspective—not just on my book, but on life itself. Here are a few things I took away from my time away:
We live in a culture that glorifies busyness, but rest is where creativity thrives. Those uninterrupted days allowed me to see connections between ideas I hadn’t noticed before. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, give yourself permission to unplug—even if only for a little while.
The simplicity of the beach reminded me that not every problem requires a complex solution. Sometimes, stepping back and observing can lead to breakthroughs you wouldn’t have seen otherwise.
With limited cell service, conversations became richer. Whether chatting with my partner, staff members or fellow guests, I relearned the value of being fully present. This reinforced one of the core themes of my book: meaningful relationships are essential to career redesign.

When was the last time you gave yourself space to reflect on your journey? Not just ticking boxes or chasing goals, but really sitting with your experiences and asking, “What do I want next?” Writing this series of books taught me the importance of pausing to ask those questions.
Why I’m Sharing My Story
If there’s one thing I hope readers take away from these books, it’s this: You don’t have to start from scratch to build a fulfilling career. Your past experiences, skills, and passions are assets—not obstacles—to creating something new. The key is learning how to reimagine them in ways that align with who you are today.
My goal isn’t to tell you what to do—it’s to guide you through the process of figuring it out for yourself. Because here’s the truth: No one else can define success for you. Only you know what lights you up, what drains you, and what kind of life you want to design.
And maybe, just maybe, taking a page from my beachside retreat, you’ll discover that the answers you seek aren’t buried in spreadsheets or LinkedIn posts—they’re waiting patiently for you to slow down and listen.
If it matters to you
If you’ve ever felt torn between staying the course and making a change—I’d love for you to join me on this journey. "Reinvent, Not Restart: Your Blueprint to Career Redesign" is the Superbook that combines the essence of the first 4 mini playbooks, will be available soon, and its on early bird launch offer now (which also includes all 4 of my playbooks)
Until then, I invite you to carve out a little time for yourself. Step away from the noise, even if just for an hour. Ask yourself: What does reinvention look like for me?
Because here’s the beautiful part about reinventing your career—you get to decide. And trust me, once you start, the possibilities are endless.
Here’s to finding clarity, wherever you are.
Warmly,
Yue Wen
