Finding the Bold Version of Yourself

Finding the Bold Version of Yourself

I'm in the process of writing a book - a book about the history of racism in North America - I'm a white guy and not a historian, so in many ways, I have no business writing this book.

But as I have nibbled around that excuse over the past half-year or so, I realize I use it a lot. Over the years, I have let my timid self handle the decision making. That topic, whatever it might be, is not new. I don't have anything to add. That's the sort of thing I would tell myself.

Well, for whatever reason, I've turned the tables on my timid self. What would Bold Me do? Bold Me has to write this book right now, and I have another book in the works -- about the invention, expansion, and stagnation of the middle class in the US.

Something clicked over the past few years. I HAVE to write these books. What kind of audience and reception will they find? I have no idea.

But Timid Me is not calling the shots these days. He's been in charge waaaayyy too long. Don't let that happen to you. Whatever the project you've got in the back of your head, ask, "what would the bold version of myself do?" Then get out there and do it.

I love this, Craig! When I was accepted to grad school, but I hadn't yet finalized my decision, a friend asked, "How are you going to go home to your children and explain why you are NOT taking this opportunity to hone your craft?"

You’re not alone, Craig. Self-doubt, imposter syndrome, and negative-self-talk are far more commonplace than you might think, even among those we think of as highly accomplished. Good luck on the book! Sounds interesting. And certainly timely.

Kudos, Craig! To live your dreams, you must first wake-up! That might mean being the 'Bold Version' of yourself because come to think of it, italics even appear sleepy with their leaning physique. Kudos again!
