Finding an Airpod

Finding an Airpod

If you know me, you'll understand I hold a strong belief that doing the right thing leads to positive outcomes (eventually). This philosophy guides me, especially in my professional endeavors not always a popular thing.

A few months back, the Information Services team at Monash College received a request. Our task? To set up a series of new desks. Typically, Monash College collaborates with eSolutions (outsource) for such tasks. However, this time was slightly different. Given we already had spare monitors, keyboards, mice, and docking stations, we aimed to accomplish our goal cost-effectively.

Thus began our journey. Loft Li and I dedicated our Friday afternoons to this, well mainly Loft, I was just his offsider, The goal was clear: to set up approximately 100 new desks over the coming weeks whilst still doing our day jobs.

A Serendipitous Discovery

Amidst our setup, a small yet significant discovery was made—a lone left AirPod Pro. After some inquiries and cleaning, it found its way onto our trophy shelf, a placeholder for found items awaiting their rightful owners.

Fast forward a few weeks, and I find myself purchasing a Skittles AirPod Case for my child—a whimsical gift. Little did I know, this act was a piece of a larger puzzle yet to unfold.

Another month passes, and fate would have it, I cross paths with Sumedha Peramuhendige , a standout member of the team, on his desk, his AirPods in a clear case. With my new found interest of Airpod cases, I inspect his AirPods, only to find the case missing his right one. Recalling the lone AirPod on our trophy shelf, a lightbulb went off. To our astonishment, the AirPod I found months ago matched Sumedha's missing piece perfectly, both model and the missing ear.

The Universe Aligning

Reflecting on this experience, several pieces had to fall into place:

  • That AirPod could have been lost amidst the trash for up to two years.
  • My decision to assist Loft with the desk setups.
  • The chance of setting up that specific space, considering Loft's efficiency, basically it was like an intense race.
  • The choice to preserve the found AirPod on our trophy shelf.
  • My newfound interest in AirPod cases while searching for a gift.
  • Being onsite simultaneously as Sumedha as we have a lot of WFH.
  • My unusual decision to inspect his AirPods, drawn by the clear case, I never would even think to touch someones Airpods.
  • Finding the exact match for the missing AirPod (left ear).

This series of coincidences? I prefer to see it as the universe's way of reminding us of the beauty of serendipity, especially when we strive to do the right thing.

No way! I was just looking at that lonely AirPod on the shelf the other day thinking someone may have moved on from the search. Glad it’s found a home ??
