Have you ever wondered why you are here or what your purpose or calling is? I'm sure anyone reading this has contemplated their purpose and what their life would look like if they were aligned with that purpose. People tend to over think everything and forget how the simplest answer is usually the right one. I was once guilty of this, so I know it all too well. It all starts with self-awareness and the belief that you deserve to live your best, most fulfilled life. This week I had the pleasure of interviewing Jamie Kullman. Jamie is a podcast host, keynote speaker, entrepreneur and purpose mentor. When I met Jamie, I instantly got the impression of happiness, it radiates off her. Anyone living their purpose looks like this because they are inherently joyful and abundant.
Doesn't it sound appealing to live your life with purpose and to be genuinely happy? When I asked Jamie how she found her purpose she said she found it by seeking independence and freedom. Prior to Jamie realizing her calling she was working at a car dealership. While she was making a good salary, received large bonuses and was up for a major promotion she was working from 9AM-9PM every day. She would go home, watch TV, go to bed and repeat it all the next day. She was not living a purposeful life, her life was rinse and repeat. How many people reading this relate to this exact scenario? I know I did, I felt every word of what she said because I had once experienced this as well. On the surface it looks like you have it all; a beautiful home, nice cars, nice clothes but deep down inside you feel empty. There is no joy because there is no purpose. In order for Jamie to find her purpose she had to dig deep and uncover the truth. Her realization was that she wanted more out of life, she refused to believe that she was meant to live a "rinse and repeat life." The truth is within you but in order to be aligned with your purpose you have to uncover it and have the bravery to see it through. While bravery is required it is also essential to eliminate mental blocks and self-doubt. You also need to stop settling for things that no longer serve you, things that only weigh you down. The odds of you being born is 1 in 400 trillion and you are unique, there is only one you in this world. You are here for a reason and because of that have a purpose. Living a "rinse and repeat" life will not serve you or anyone around you and it will only lead to regret and disappointment. Remember why you are here and what you are meant to do and you will become to see things more clearly.
Another common mental block many people have in finding their purpose is the fact that they cannot let past events go. It is common for people to live in the past or the future, what's uncommon is someone focusing on the present. It is important to acknowledge that there is nothing that can be done to change the past so there is no sense dwelling on it and the future has not yet arrived so why live there in your mind? Focus on the present and make the most of every action and you will begin to live a purposeful life. Another important aspect of not letting your past define you is to recognize the lessons within the struggles you have had. Do not dwell on past events but instead view them as lessons that brought you to where you are today. It isn't written anywhere that you need to continually feel ashamed of your past and consistently think about it. Let it go or you will never grow.
Do you find yourself getting hung up on "the how" and lose focus on "the why?" If you focus on why you are doing something and not how you are going to do it the answer will come to you naturally and you will have clarity of mind. As humans we tend to focus our energy on the wrong things, it can be easy to get lost in the process and forget why we started in the first place. When you start to lose focus, go back to the why and keep it at the forefront of your mind until your vision becomes clear again. Losing focus happens to everyone from time to time, when it happens to you take a breath and go back to your why. There is no harder work than steady, consistent thought but it ultimately will get you to the goals you seek. This is why vision boards work so well. In order to keep your vision at the forefront of your mind it is beneficial to see your goals and picture them often. Our minds are more powerful than we tend to believe and I am a firm believer that our thoughts actively shape our reality. Therefore, continual focus on your vision is imperative to achieving your goals, dreams and finding your purpose. Keep in mind that in order to find your purpose you need to uncover the truth and have the bravery to see it through but you also cannot let fear guide your decisions. All too often we use fear as a guide and it actively prevents us from living a purposeful life. Be brave, have courage and know that within you is the ability to do anything you set your mind to.

2 年Living in the now can be tough. From the time you're a tot, you're told "when you grow up." As you age, "I remember when...." It takes a willingness to engage in the moment. The funny thing is that the willingness to engage in the moment often creates the best memories. Thank you for your post Tara LaFon Gooch, MBA ??
