Find Your Source of Inspiration

Find Your Source of Inspiration

Last week marked the exhilarating Miami Art Week and Art Basel in Miami Beach—an event I look forward to each year. The energy is palpable as people from around the globe converge, creating a vibrant (sometimes chaotic) atmosphere. My passion for the arts is rekindled each time, fueling my creativity.

In fact, a visit to MoMA in NYC a few years back sparked the inspiration for the backdrop of my keynote presentations, a nod to the geometric genius of Dutch painter Piet Mondrian .

Reflecting on the recent Miami Art Week, my role as a Forbes contributor granted me access to the press opening of Scope . This exhibition is an annual highlight, staged within a sprawling white tent on the sands of Miami Beach with a view of the ocean. A consistent presence there is Max Zorn , another Dutch artist, whose work diverges significantly from Mondrian's. Zorn's unique artistry doesn't involve paint and a brush; he uses packing tape and a scalpel.

You need to hear Zorn's story and see his work to understand why it is truly unique. Check out this fascinating Max Zorn interview from CBS Sunday Morning.

When I saw this spot when it aired in 2017, I thought, “Wow he’s clever.” But I never expected to see his work up close. Then, when I saw it at Scope, I was blown away.

Discover Your Muse

Art is one of my most inspiring muses. What or who is your muse?

Answer these ten questions to identify your sources of inspiration and creativity:

  1. Who or what inspires me?
  2. Who are the people I admire most, and why?
  3. How can I make more space for doing things that move me?
  4. How can I change what I do or how I do it to be more authentic and differentiated?
  5. What’s my medium for engaging and inspiring others?
  6. When do I feel most fulfilled?
  7. What kind of environments energize me?
  8. What makes me stand out from others who share my job title?
  9. What activities make me lose track of time?
  10. How do I like to express myself creatively?

Great reminder, William! Inspiration can come from so many places, we just have to be open to it.
