Let's imagine that you are on a ship that is going through rough weather. The ship keeps going up and down, and it isn't easy to balance ourselves. In such a situation, how would you check the time on the wall clock before you? The most obvious answer would be to focus on the clock face and read the time. Once you read the time, you start becoming comfortable with the movements around you because now, you have a point of reference.
What if your life was like a ship going through troubled waters? Aren't we all trying to find the wall clock that gives us balance and a sense of control?
When uncertainty surrounds us, it feels good to have something or someone that can be our point of reference. Sometimes, it's our kids or loved ones; other times, it's an activity like meditation, yoga or sport. Everyone needs a symbol of stability; somebody we can look up to and become more relaxed and in control of our state. A point of reference can be a person, place, thing or memory. It can be an act of gratitude.
Everyone needs a reference point that acts like an anchor and keeps us grounded amidst stormy waters.
