Find your Passion and everything else will fall into place. I was reminded of this today as I was spending some time with a young manager that appears to be at a crossroads – which many seem to be with the COVID-19 pandemic. She was recently laid off and she asked for some career guidance and direction as she searches for her next role. She started the chat with what would look good to potential employers, what would be the right salary level to consider, which geographical location should she be willing to move to etc. All the normal “business” related considerations. She sounded like she was simply going through the motions. I stopped her and asked the simple question, “Do You Love What You Do?” and there was silence. Long story short, we had a heartfelt chat about her what she is passionate about and we then discussed possible steps for her to create a career within Her Passion.
I am a firm believer that if you pursue your passion and find a job / career that you love (I know, not always easy to do) everything else will fall into place. Now is a great time to step back and do some soul searching – what is it that you love to do? Be honest with yourself and don’t feel shy about finding a “Coach” who can help you Find Your Passion.
I’m a perfect example of this. I knew at a very early age that I wanted to be in the hotel business (happy to tell you my story of how I knew but too long for this post). I absolutely loved working in hotels, serving guests, making great friends, mentoring others and having fun and a ton of laughs and experiencing different cultures. I didn’t go to a top tier school (Sorry LaSalle College), but I worked hard, volunteered for any assignment, took every job offered to me and I really never felt like I was at work at any time. I loved what I did, and everything else came to me – a beautiful family, financial security and a family of work friends that to this day I still speak with on a daily basis.
So, if you are at that Crossroad, stop and take the time to assess what you Really want to do – I believe you can turn your passion into a solid and rewarding career. There has never been a better time to make the move to something new – reward yourself and Find Your Passion!

4 年So true! We have something in common, I knew my passion would bring me into the hotel business when I was 15. However I grew up in hospitality, it was predetermined I assume:)

4 年So true, Brian, and glad that you are able to share that insight with others. Even if a situation's demands are difficult, the true-north of one's passion and mission in life -- not just in a "job" -- carry one through and bring the fulfillment of true success.
Umm you will have to tell me your story of how you found what you love to do at an early age the next time we go golfing. I agree with you, I always had a lot of fun working with you and always used to say that you were the funniest guy around. Always brought laughter in high stressful situations like opening or transitioning hotels as you know there was always something different each hotel that nobody came across the previous times. Great post, maybe you should look at writing a book- something new I have learned about you Mr. Proctor
