Find The Perfect Trend [May Newsletter]

There is a raw, sizzling beauty of the perfect trend.

It’s stunning when you come across it. Like finding a leprechaun in the vegetable patch. Something to marvel at.

And… when you find one (a perfect trend, not the leprechaun), what should you do with it? Just move on to the next chart, and forget about it?

Hell no!?Print out that baby. Pin it up near your trading desk. Look to duplicate it’s simple glory in future trades.

Treat it like a trading vision board, and allow its inherent wisdom to encourage you to find others just like it. When you see it, feel your heart beat a little faster.

Realise that if there’s one like that, there will be others. And all you have to do is hunt them down and jump in.

Let that trend wave take you up, up and away. Aim to define what it looked like just before it broke out and headed skywards. Write down what you see (and down the track, use that description in your scan, so you can get your computer to do the work and find similar types of charts in their early stages).

You have a precious moment. Don’t blow it by just clicking the Page Down button on your computer to go onto the next chart.

Honour that perfectly trending share when you find it, and think about what makes it so gorgeous. If you just move on without paying attention, this is a blunder that could mean you're leaving tens of thousands of dollars… perhaps millions... on the table.

It's the ideal time to have a look for those perfect 'archetypal' trades.

For the majority of traders, our 'macro' is on currenly - which means we can actively look for new trades in the Aussie market.

Plus, for the majority, the US macro is on as well. So, you can hunt and play in the US market as well.

This is the time to hone your chart recognition skills, and surround your trading desk with printouts of archetypal charts, so you can recognise them in the future.

They were such?cute, woolly white lambs?- so we called them?Lamington and Lamb Chop.

New-born lambs that needed to be bottle-fed every 4 hours. Around the clock.

So, my sister and I became their mums.

We lived on a suburban block. The lambs learned from my dog how to knock on the back door so we'd give them a bottle. And, every night, our dog and the lambs all slept together in the laundry.

It was an exhausting time, but so rewarding. The clip clop of their hooves. The warmth of an endearing lamb cuddle. Their eagerness and bleating when we brought them a bottle.

But then… one of the neighbours complained to the Council - and the lambs had to be whisked back to my brother-in-law’s farm.?My trust in humanity was dislocated. Why would a neighbour be so cruel as to deprive my sister and me of our beautiful lamb-children?

I'll bet you you've got your own example of childhood pain.

Fast forward a few decades, and add in some ill-health, a retrenchment or two, a failed marriage (or take your pick of the adult-grab-bag of blah) and?we wonder why it’s so hard to trust.

We have the Sara Lee of trust-breaking examples as we grow up, and as we get older, the insults to our psyche get bigger. Multiple layers of threats. Some are minor… but some are cataclysmically major.

As a direct result we have trouble believing our mentors, and even ourselves, as we plan to become traders.

It’s the trail of fractures of trust that stops us in our tracks. We need the skills to process trauma, realise it impacts on our current lives, and make it explicit. It’s all in the feeling.

When we change the way we’re feeling, we change everything. You just can’t underestimate the impact of trading psychology on your own behaviour.

If you can continue to grow and confront, you’ll keep growing as a person, and as a trader.

Make this year your year of growth. We're almost half way through.?This is the year you could alter your trajectory as you confront the major and minor assaults from your past.

So… what happened to my beautiful two lambs? Lamington grew into a mighty fine-looking ram with curly horns and an attitude of superiority.

Lamb Chop went the way of her name.

Happy trading!

Louise

That's a great perspective on change and leadership. Change can be challenging for many people, but as a leader, it's important to provide direction and support while also allowing for creative freedom and experimentation. Fostering a culture of collaboration and open communication, you can encourage your team to share their ideas and perspectives while also providing guidance and feedback to help them achieve their goals. This approach can help build trust, respect, and a sense of shared purpose that can drive innovation and success.

In times of change, people often crave direction but also want the freedom to pursue their own ideas. It's not uncommon to see people stumble because they refuse to listen to others. As someone who values support and encouragement, I try to be there for those who need guidance and help them through their next experiment. Let's work together to embrace change and achieve our goals.

Louise Bedford - ??? Host of Talking Trading podcast, You cannot hide your passion for teaching. ?? On trends, you are so right! A picture of a perfect trend near their monitor lets a trader see visually what they will look for on their charts. The key is to look at the image first, then the screen. I've also found that if I cannot tell what the trend is in 2-3 seconds of looking at the chart that there are one of two things wrong: 1) I need a better study or more precise picture of a trend than I currently use. 2) There is no trend, so no trade.
