Find out what we've been up to!
Hi everyone!
Firstly, we want to say thank you so much to everyone who came to and supported our Spring Social, Bingo Bonanza. It was a huge success, and we raised £1021.28 which has now been donated to The Freedom Project , who were really grateful for the support:
?“That is an amazing amount, we were blown away! A huge thank you to you all for arranging such a successful night!?
?We are currently trying to raise funding to secure our counselling costs for 2023/2024 so this will be going straight in that pot!”
On the night we were joined by 70 people ranging from family, friends, members and BECBC team, and over £1000 worth of prizes were given away on the night during both bingo games and a raffle – 90% of which prizes were donated by local businesses! So, after the success of this social – keep your eyes peeled for what we have coming next!
We want to continue to offer some top tips as part of our newsletters. This month, Shadow Board member Issy has shared some advice on Sustainability and Carbon Management within your business.
“This is something that is becoming more and more prevalent and it’s potentially a great way to develop your career by getting involved in your business’ sustainability plans!” says Issy.
?Issy’s Tips:
1. Raise the topic with your boss, offering to pick up the initial research on what your business already has in place – outlining any targets or commitments already in place.
2. Utilise resources – Supply Chain Sustainability School is a great free resource to access training on lots of different sustainability and social impacts topics!
3. Engage all members of your team – embedding sustainability into the culture of your workplace will help make progress easier. Send out emails, host Lunch and Learns etc.
4. Set targets dates for all your activities to hold you accountable and help to avoid greenwashing.
Unsure how to raise the topic with the management team? Make sure you check out our development guide which includes tips on how to start a conversation with your manager!?

We don’t want to blow our trumpet (we do!) but in case you hadn’t heard, we’ve been shortlisted for the Insider Media?North West Young Professional Awards in the Young Professional Team category! This is the second time we have been shortlisted for the award so we really hope the work we’ve done on sustainability, engagement with potential apprentices, member meeting takeovers and the rest(!) has been enough this year! ?? We’ll find out in April, wish us luck!
Finally, we have some very sad news to share??…After 4 years of voluntary service, our former Chair, Jason Savage , is stepping down from the Shadow Board. Jason has been a proactive and invaluable member, and we want to thank him for his time, effort and contribution to BECBC and the Shadow Board. We know he’ll be staying in touch with us, coming to our socials and volunteering where possible (he can’t escape the BECBC team that easily!)
Reflecting on his time with the Shadow Board and BECBC, Jason says being involved with the operations and strategic thinking within the business has been “massively beneficial” to his personal and professional development.
Good luck Jason, we can’t wait to see what you achieve next!
It’s not all sad however, as Jason’s departure does mean we can recruit for a new member, stay tuned to find out when the vacancy goes live!
