??? Find out how futures thinking can help us to reimagine government!

Hello,
At our most recent Reimagining Government Community of Practice workshop, we explored how futures thinking could help us to reimagine government.
Our host, consulting Futurist and facilitator Amanda Reeves, invited us to list the facts we believed true about government, such as its poor relationship with citizens, influence from lobbyists and businesses, over-centralisation, and resistance to change.
Then, we were challenged to flip the facts and develop alternative versions of our listed truths. In contrast with the negativity of the first list, this second list felt more fun. For example, what would a moneyless or kind government look like? What about transparent services with prompt replies, proactive staff, and cyber-secure and agile digital platforms?
?? Read my latest blog to learn more about what we reimagined in our session and how some of these imagined futures are already becoming a reality. Dive into hopeful hints towards futures we thought were preposterous for government, like increased kindness, decentralisation, governing for good, combating misinformation, and valuing diversity.
As we surfaced how we felt when thinking about the future, one key takeaway from the session is that the future is not set in stone or universal. There is never only one way things can turn out; there are always numerous possibilities. Amanda explained:

“It unfolds into the present a bit at a time. If we look, we can see pockets of the future here in the present.”
