Find Joy in Small Bites
Earlier today, I talked with a friend who was busy with work and struggling to balance life. She wanted a little bit more joy in her life. She said something that I was pondering after the call while staring at the small herb hydroponics farm in my kitchen, "I can have my cake and eat it too, just not at the same time. I have to find a rhythm."
Then, I noticed it was time to harvest my basil and put it in the dehydrator. Pondering the conversation, I reflected on how much joy I received from this simple hobby. I am excited to see how many inches it has grown each morning, and it makes my mouth salivate when I think about how awesome it is sprinkled on pasta or chicken.
I find nature incredibly fascinating. It can be an excellent metaphor for life: we plant seeds, nurture our friends, grow together, and harvest the herbs from our time together.
I was filled with joy as I trimmed my herbs and thought of writing this article. Now, it is time for me to get back to work. If you need more joy in your life, occasionally take some time out and do something simple that makes you happy. The best parts of life sometimes come in tiny bites, but the energy we receive can last a long time.
