It's a long wait ever since I tried to achieve to reach target of starting a fuel outlet for last two years .The efforts have been tremendous with frequent failures on my path to get through the statutory compliances completed from various agencies with running around pillars to post .Every step I wished to conquer was a failures ,discouragement and loss of hope. It is in appropriate to mention minute details of this project failures here as many agencies are still live and need to act towards this project. I can keep my failure steps elaborative but..
Suddenly passing through journey of past two years, surprisingly I could see some smile on my face when two big government offices sought to find some way towards their pain areas in my district. The stresses generated through enforcing the disciplines across districts, the crime wing of police department ,the administrative wings of 'Jilha Parishad' etc. was a matter of worry for them that they expressed during conversation of my project journey . This was fantastic opportunity for me to chip in to their this agony domain. Yes i have my large network with experts in all fields and this is comparatively easily manageable problem that i could assist them .Moreover it is pleasurable ,something that i would like to offer my own birthplace as a social work .The path i could see while travelling my journey towards my targeted goal. A target to start my project at my family owned land.
When focusing on a big task, it’s easy to think the goal is everything. But it’s not. Because it’s not even about the goal. It’s about the journey. I recall the small article and quote I learnt ...
"Our minds tend to daydream about the future, instead of focusing on what we can do right now to improve." A Harvard study found that we spend almost 50 percent of our time thinking about the past and future, instead of focusing on the present, which leads to increased unhappiness. But if you shift your focus from the goal to the journey, your mindset completely changes. Instead of seeing a big goal as something that will be realized at some point in the distant future, you have smaller, bite-sized steps that you can look forward to, and more importantly, act on today"
While having my complete focus on my goal ,it was a revelation for me that the journey also shines a light on what else you get out of trying to reach your goals. The trek is where you learn. Where you grow. In some ways, achieving goals is just a by-product of your journey. I recall that when my son gained a weight in his body, he attempted to lose his weight by more exercise, healthy food etc. and he also walked away with new healthy habits, not to mention the gratifying knowledge that we learnt as a family about rich food and get a way from junk food habits.
'Late tennis player Arthur Ashe said, “Success is a journey, not a destination. The doing is often more important than the outcome.'
So it turns out that you might not even need to reach your goal to be successful. But what you get out of trying is guaranteed to make an impact. By setting out to achieve a goal, you’re forming new relationships ,new friends ,new habits, striving towards something bigger than yourself, and imbuing your life with purpose. The biggest lesson that i could learn is that when we stop focusing so much on the future or the outcome, and pay more attention to the present and the overall journey, that first single step seems more manageable and enjoyable.
