Financing a Greener ASEAN

Thrilled to share some of my learnings in Jakarta! I had the privilege of speaking at the 2024 ASEAN-ROK Financial Cooperation Forum at the Fairmont Jakarta on July 4th and 5th. It was truly eye-opening to witness the deepening economic ties and cultural connections between ASEAN nations and the Republic of Korea. Did you know ASEAN is the most popular travel destination for Koreans, their second-largest trading partner, and second-largest investment destination?

Focusing on and financing a Greener ASEAN:

The forum centered around a critical topic: creating a greener ASEAN through sustainable finance and achieving net-zero transition. On our panel, we discussed how financial institutions can accelerate this journey. As a venture capitalist, I shared my perspective on key factors that will drive advancements in climate technology and mobilize risk capital to scale innovative startups. Also share some case studies of our portfolio investments including smart logistics (Deliveree), smart parking tech (Soul Parking). Also shared on upcoming startups - an energy efficiency startup in Malaysia helping hospitality businesses and factories to reduce their carbon footprint; also a circular economy startup recycling agricultural waste (broken rice husk) into compostable consumer products like straws and a wood-free, compostable pallet for moving goods. These nimble startups are making a significant contribution to climate solutions. They represent the vast potential of venture capital in fostering impactful innovation for a greener future. While climate-focused investments are still in their early stages, the potential is truly enormous!

A big thanks to the ASEAN-ROK Financial Cooperation Centre for hosting this important forum and bringing together experts to pave the way for a greener ASEAN. KOTEC Genesis Alternative Ventures
