Financially Fearless: Empowering Single Moms for a Secure Future

Financially Fearless: Empowering Single Moms for a Secure Future

As we celebrated International Women’s Day this past Saturday, I want to take a moment to recognize and honor the incredible strength of single mothers—the women who do it all, often on their own.

Did you know that 80% of all single-parent families in the U.S. are headed by mothers?

That’s approximately 7.3 million households where women are balancing careers, caregiving, and finances—many without a financial safety net.

Nearly 15 million children are being raised by single mothers.

Navigating financial security as a single parent isn’t easy, but you don’t have to do it alone.

Here are a few key strategies to build a stronger financial future:

?? Live Within Your Means (Without Sacrificing Joy!)

Budgeting isn’t about cutting out everything fun—it’s about taking control.

Cover your necessities first, then make room for savings and what brings you joy.

Small steps like automating savings or tracking spending can create long-term financial stability.

??? Protect What Matters Most

Your income is your biggest asset, and life insurance and disability coverage are essential—but have you considered an Indexed Universal Life (IUL) policy on the parent paying child support?

If they become ill or injured, this ensures payments continue for your child’s future stability.

The key? The custodial parent (you!) should own the policy to maintain full control.

?? Think Long-Term

It’s easy to put off retirement savings when you’re focused on daily expenses.

But even small contributions add up—whether to a 401(k), IRA, or a simple emergency fund.

Start where you can, and let your money work for you over time.

?? You Don’t Have to Do It Alone

So many single moms feel like they have to figure it all out on their own—but you don’t!

As a financial strategist, I help women just like you map out a clear, achievable financial plan.

?? Prioritize YOU

Your financial well-being starts with self-care.

Take time for yourself—whether that’s a quiet moment, a book, or a walk.

A well-rested, focused you makes the best financial decisions.

Your Turn!

?? What’s one financial lesson you’ve learned as a single parent?

Or, what’s a money tip you’d share with another single mom?

Drop it in the comments—I’d love to hear!

Let’s Talk!

If you’re ready to take control of your financial future, I’d love to help.

Golly moses, Betty Pecha! 80 PERCENT!! Yikes. I am so glad you are here to address these ideas for these hard-working women! Some times I think I and other women simply forego the choice, letting things happen as they will. Is that a female thing?? Are men trained to see more of the financial consequences of their choices than women? Or is that just my experience??

Single moms are some of the strongest, most resourceful women out there, and financial security is such a key part of that strength. Your tips are so practical and empowering— Betty Pecha especially the reminder that budgeting isn’t about restriction, but taking control of your future. One of the biggest lessons I’ve seen is that consistency beats perfection. Whether it’s saving a little each month, setting up the right protections, or just getting clear on financial goals, small steps add up in a big way over time.
