Financial metrics are the backbone …but Culture is the oxygen for any business to thrive….

While financial metrics are the backbone for any business to keep moving…but culture is the oxygen for it to stay alive….

Why do I say so…?

In today’s competitive environment, the importance of a positive corporate culture cannot be overstated. It’s not just about keeping employees happy; it's about fostering an environment where they can thrive and contribute to their fullest potential.

The Power of Mindfulness

Researchers at Harvard found that a whopping 47% of our time is spent daydreaming about anything but what we're doing. Yikes! That's not exactly a recipe for getting things done, is it?

Not only does this mental wandering stall our productivity, but it can also zap our happiness.?

That's where mindfulness comes in!

By training your brain to focus on the present, you eliminate mental clutter and enhance your ability to concentrate on tasks—from meeting deadlines to brainstorming innovative ideas.

This kind of focus not only boosts productivity but also overall well-being.

Let’s look at few real-life examples of mindful leadership focussing on culture:

Google and Microsoft – thriving….

Heard about 谷歌 's Project Aristotle?

The objective of this project was to understand and analyse various hypotheses for team success. I love the name of the project, as it was based on Aristotle’s famous quotation: "the whole is greater than the sum of its parts".

And the findings were impressive – they showed that teams with high psychological safety were more likely to harness the power of diverse ideas and achieve great results, underscoring the value of a supportive and mindful leadership style.

Similar story unraveled at @Microsoft when is Satya Nadella took over as the CEO.? He emphasised the importance of empathy and collaboration in the company’s culture.

Under his guidance, 微软 revitalised its mission and core values, leading to a dramatic improvement in employee morale and innovation.??

His approach has not only led to higher productivity but also positioned Microsoft as a leader in new technology sectors.

That substantiates the importance of mindfulness at the workplace!

Now you see - why I call culture is the oxygen for Corporates to it stay alive and thrive….

LinkedIn: Leading with Mindfulness

Many of you reading this on LinkedIn might remember Jeff Weiner , the Executive Chairman, who wasn’t just focused on profits but also on treating his employees humanely. Weiner integrated mindfulness practices such as meditation and yoga for workplace wellbeing, shifting the office culture from one focused on spreadsheets to one that embraced zen.

This shift led to open communications and a supportive environment, contributing significantly to LinkedIn’s success under his leadership.

LinkedIn’s "InDay" (Inspiration Day), is one such initiative I highly admire.?

It's recognising employees who spent weeks reflecting & contemplating on a complex problem to arrive at a solution that breaks the mould!

Data-Driven Support for Mindfulness

?A report from the Institute for Mindful Leadership reveals that over:

  • 93% of leaders surveyed after participating in mindfulness programs noticed a positive impact on their leadership effectiveness and decision-making skills.
  • 89% reported enhanced listening abilities, crucial for leadership.

Summing Up…

As we can see, the empirical data along with the real-life examples, confirms that mindful leadership is not just a fad but a foundational element for long-term success.

Embracing mindfulness in leadership is a clear path—a true win-win scenario for leaders aiming for lasting impact.

The financial metrics are indeed the backbone for any business - but it is the cultural cohesiveness, which will differentiate between good and great!

The Consciouspreneur? will not only achieve business success but also take the businesses to the next level, by cultivating a positive and sustainable organisation culture.

I can truly resonate with this - while financial metrics are important for any business…but culture plays a vital role in it's growth. Loved the 'culture' analogy with 'oxygen'! Thank you Manoj Gupta, for this insight
