Finally an Academy dedicated to International Watch Distribution
I was amazed to read lately that in the Roman mythology, Mercury was the god of Financial gain, commerce, travel and... trickery and thieves ! That pretty much give an historical perspective on how Sales men have always been considered since ancient age :-).
Probably to give it some title of nobility, Sales has always been categorized as a sub-category of the Marketing and taught as such. I realized this when giving last fall a lecture at an Executive MBA on "the challenges of setting an international watch distribution". In fact, as incredible as it may sound, there is no course available on intl watch distribution! There is an average of 3 new watch brand launching daily on Kickstarter, with a dramatic low success rate and more doubts for the "day after" if they succeed. So many entrepreneurs trying to bring to life their dream watch brand without knowing how to set up a professional distribution network. Many top company executive (with all respect) that have only a partial and theoretical understanding of what their sales team is facing in the market... And finally, a whole industry that claims to be so innovative but is crying because they see their sales budget melting. We are experiencing a quantum leap in the distribution and most of the industry executives are still waiting for the cheese to come back ("who moved my cheese", Dr Spencer Johnson).
It's time to put back Distribution & Sales in the center of the company's attention and anticipate the tsunami that will change the way we trade tomorrow. 7 年Great idea too many amateurs out there and I don’t refer to distribution manager. The industry is changing but top layer management unable to move out of the boxes. The role of a sales manager is pivotal to a company success.
