The final #M - Me

The final #M - Me

We have covered the 4 of the #5M's up until this point - and the final one is about me.

Weirdly for someone who is constantly online, creating content, doing videos, podcasts, interviews etc - I don't actually love talking about myself. That's probably why I'm a day late writing this newsletter. 5000+ people reading about me...ew.

Weirdly I do know that when I tell my story, someone, somewhere messages me to say they either enjoyed it, got something from it or it made them think a bit differently. So I keep telling it, regardless of how it makes me feel.

The #5Ms are #Mission #Money #Mindset #Movement and #Me

This framework came from me trying to understand what makes some people take action and do the work and get the results - and other just not. I've trained, mentored, coached (or a hybrid of all three) thousands of entrepreneurs over the years in my communities, programmes, challenges and on site - from the very fresh new start up freelancer to the wizened old CEO of the multi million pound outfit - and I was digging to deep to see what makes people successful - whatever success means to them.

As part of this process I looked back at my process from being in a tonne of debt to selling over ï¿¡3m of my LinkedIn Mastermind training programme (lets face it, I never wanted to be a LinkedIn person when I grew up - it's pretty random how it's all turned out) and tried to work out why it all worked out for me and I came up with the #5Ms

#Mission - Having a clear reason for your business being here and the impact it will leave on society after it's gone and you've gone. Understanding the ripple effect you're creating in the world.

#Money - Having clear goals and targets and understanding that business is basic maths and the numbers don't lie. Having a love affair with money and understanding the way you think, feel and talk about money, wealth and successful people impact your own results.

#Mindset - Understanding that business is 20% strategy, tactics, sales, marketing etc and 80% your belief in yourself and your ability to execute and deal with the outcome - good or bad.

#Movement - This was a biggie. I realised that no matter what, I take action. Not always in the right direction but that doesn't stop me. I am never hesitant or paralysed with indecision or fear. I just move. Write a post, make a call, reply to an email, pitch something, sell something, hire someone. Just do something, anything. I realised that's what crushes so many businesses - staying still and doing nothing.

#Me - I have to take some credit. I am totally responsible for taking all the actions and making all the decisions in my business. I took big bold leaps into the unknown and I dealt with the consequences. I made all the mistakes. I dealt with all the haters. I held myself accountable every single day because I was throwing everything at it. I changed who I was and grew and developed at every stage of the business, so fast I could hardly keep up and I lost a lot of team members, staff and associates along the way. I made huge sacrifices socially, emotionally and financially to get me to a position where I wouldn't have to any more.

I was in the Priory at 16, I had my 17th birthday in there. I was so poorly with agoraphobia, anxiety and panic attacks I couldn't leave the house and was hospitalised. Its just been my daughters 17th birthday. There was a car on the drive with a bow for her. Things like that are why I've done what I have done. I have come a very long way and I do believe I am a great role model for both my teenage daughters. I am no way perfect and my business is no way perfect. Everything is messy and complicated and confusing and uncertain but that's life and that's definitely business in my experience - Feels like I am just winging it in both sometimes!

And finally - although this doesn't begin with M (although Meditation and Music do - two things we have at the #5M Live events) A commitment to consistency. No matter what. Resilience is the ability to emotionally disengage and keep doing what you need to do, no matter what is going on in your life. Showing up and serving like you're getting paid a million pounds - because one day you will. Showing up for your business every single day like your life depends on it - because your dream life does.

I hope you have enjoyed the #5M series! We have a live event for it regularly in Warrington - the next one is the 1st April. It is an all day event to explore these concepts in the context of your business and your mindset around it. It is a very interactive day (but no weird ice breakers or being forced to stand up and speak) and very reflective too. The feedback is so positive - people seem to love being in person, in the company of like-minded people and having a day out to think about and work on their businesses. The lunch is great - and we go for a chinese at my favourite restaurant after :)

I really like your description of Mission... What impact will my business have when I'm gone? What a powerful question to help me focus. Thank you for your post and for sharing your story.
