Final Last Warning: Pilot Records Database

We all know what happens when we assume something. Right now, the FAA is assuming you know that as of September 9, 2024, the Pilot Records Improvement Act (PRIA) will not be an available alternative to the Pilot Records Database (PRD). Here's some information to make sure you're finally ready.

What Does That Cutoff Date Mean?

It means that September 9th is the final compliance date for reporting historical records dated before January 1, 2015 concerning pilot training/qualifications, alcohol testing, proficiency, and disciplinary action records. All of those records must be in the FAA's new Pilot Records Database before the deadline.

Who Does it Apply To?

Anyone who holds an operating certificate under Part 121, 125, or 135 must report to the PRD all historical records kept in accordance with PRIA starting from August 1, 2010 to June 10, 2022.

Starting in June 2023, certain operators under Part 91 and 91K were also required to complete submissions to the PRD of all historical records dated on or after January 1, 2015.

What is in the Pilot Records Database?

The PRD is replacing the PRIA of 1996 with an electronic database. It allows air carriers and other operators to see an applicant's flight qualifications and past safety records from previous employers.

As of December 7, 2021, all air carriers and operators required to review records in accordance with PRIA and/or part 111 were required to use the PRD to obtain the related FAA records. Submissions of FAA Form 8060-10 are no longer accepted.

Note: The PRD does NOT contain photocopies or scans of any records. The PRD has specific data points taken from the records to comply with the Act.

The PRD provides the following FAA records:

  • The PR Name and current address
  • Airman Certificate Information
  • Medical Certificate class, limitations, and date of issuance (if applicable)
  • Enforcement History (if applicable)
  • Accident / Incident History (if applicable)
  • Previous aviation employers (if entered by the airman into the?PRD)
  • Date of last?NDR?request (if entered by the airman into the?PRD)
  • Additional records may be available

What Do Pilots Need to Do?

To register for access, you must hold a Commercial, ATP, or Remote pilot certificate and a valid FAA medical certificate. Once you register, you can log in to view your pilot records and grant consent for others to view your pilot records.

What Do Air Carriers Need to Do?

It depends on what your role is within the company. You'll have to fit within the definitions of an Authorized/Trustee/Proxy Responsible Person or "Other" Type Roles. Once registered, the login allows your company to view the pilot records the pilot has consented to you to access.
