The Final Cut

I started my career as CTO at Romanian Television (TVR) back in 2005 after spending 8 years as Product Development Manager at Converge Horizons. On December 31, the employment as CTO ended. I had 15 exceptional years with a lot of hard work, but also with a lot of fun and professional satisfaction. We had big challenges from the first day, as TVR, at that time, was analog video and mono sound, 90% tape based production and 100% manual, tape based playout.

During these years, my wonderful team and me transformed the way TVR was doing production and broadcasting to become what it is today: full file based production and on-air automated playout for 2 HD and 8 SD TV channels (5 central + 5 regional 24/7) in a satellite DTH platform, our own platform on Eutelsat satellite plus our own OTT platform.

In these 15 years we, TVR, had to broadcast big live events as host broadcaster. Some of them, as the NATO Summit, the Funeral of the King Mihai I or the Romanian rotating presidency for the European Council were really big. I proudly managed big production teams and skilled team of engineers to create the technical system that make things possible.

We had to deal with underfunded development and, excepting two years when we got enough money for the equipment we needed, most of the time we had to do what we have to do with very little money. It was hard and challenging, but we had exceptional engineers that managed to find and select innovative products and equipment to fit our tight budgets. They not only did the system integration, but also were able to develop and manufacture in house a lot of goods and equipment like video distribution amplifiers, IT software programs and platforms, gallery furniture etc.

I also worked with exceptional people from other TV stations and other companies and have met so many amazing people from around the world. Some of them become my friends.

For that I'm very happy and grateful.
