Background Founded in 1969 by the British Accounting and Finance Association (BAFA), the British Accounting Review (BAR) is eclectic and pluralistic, publishing original and high quality manuscripts in both accounting and finance. Evidence from both UK and non-UK sources is equally acceptable. BAR has achieved an Impact Factor of 5.1 and a CiteScore of 7.2 for 2022, making it a highly ranked journal in accounting and finance. It is also rated A* in the ABDC Journal Quality List.

The BAR’s Annual Conference in Boston The BAR’s inaugural annual conference, to be held at Harvard University (onsite and online) on 4 December 2023, aims to foster rigorous academic discussions on a wide range of innovative and important topics in accounting and finance research. We are particularly interested in papers that bring new insights to the understanding of these disciplines through the exploration of unique datasets, the application of novel methodologies, or the use of interdisciplinary approaches. These diverse perspectives serve to broaden the intellectual horizons of the field and are therefore highly encouraged. The one-day event will include a comprehensive programme with two plenary keynote speeches, paper sessions equally divided between accounting and finance, and a dedicated poster session. A number of papers will be selected for possible inclusion in a special issue of BAR, subject to a fast-track review process involving a single reviewer. Two papers will be selected for the Best Paper Awards.

Acceptance for the conference does not guarantee final publication. Submissions should be sent to: Ms Shereen Awan ([email protected]). Please indicate in the subject line either "the BAR Annual Conference - conference only" or "the BAR Annual Conference - special issue". There is no submission fee, but there is a registration fee, which covers conference materials, refreshments, lunch, and the gala dinner.

Submission deadline: 25 October 2023

Authors will be notified by 2 November 2023

Conference date: 4 December 2023

Publication date of the special section: Fall 2024
