File your tax returns now because the IRS E-file system stops accepting E-filed individual tax returns on 11/30/24 until next season.

The IRS E-file system for accepting electronically filed individual tax returns will completely shut down on Saturday, November 30th, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. Eastern time.

The e-file system shutdown, which takes place annually and is standard procedure, allows the IRS IT team to prepare the E-file system for the upcoming 2024 Filing Season.

Why is this relevant to the taxpayer?

Taxpayers filing a return during the shutdown only have the option of sending the return by paper file via (snail) mail, which has downsides.

It's recommended that you avoid sending via snail mail and instead wait to e-file when the IRS opens its system back up.

This is simply because e-file is processed much faster than mailed returns, which can be backed up for months.

Here are some additional reasons why E-file is preferable to mailing a tax return:

? Refunds will be processed and sent back to taxpayers much faster in comparison to snail mail.

? E-file is more secure with security guidelines and encryption technology.

? With E-file. the taxpayer does not have the hassle to print, sign and mail out the forms and risk missing certain forms or schedules needed to be sent along.

? Peace of mind with confirmation of acceptance of your tax return within minutes!

If you end up mailing the tax return for whatever reason, please make sure to mail it certified mail so you have proof of the return being sent out.
