The first step in solving any problem is to discover what the problem actually is.?We often confuse symptoms of the problem for the problem itself.
No wonder you're frustrated!
In fundraising the “problem” might be annual revenue that just isn’t growing.?It may be even tough to keep it at the same level each year.?I might be “losing” a significant amount of revenue due to the departure of a significant supporter.
The “problem” might be a board that’s just not into fundraising.
The “problem” might be an inability to find experienced fundraising talent—or to keep them once you’ve hired them.
The “problem” might be the “lack” of money.?Either sufficient pools from which to draw your support or the resources to fund your efforts.
You get the drift.
In each of the above instances, the “problem” is a symptom of something more fundamental.
