My latest episode of Data Security and Privacy with the Privacy Professor, “Fighting US Elections & Campaigns Interference with Cybersecurity,” is now available for listening!
In this episode you will receive insights that you’ve not read or heard elsewhere about an important aspect of elections security, during my chat with Matt Barrett, co-founder of US CyberDome.
There are many lessons to learn about security threats and vulnerabilities in elections and campaigns from the past 8+ years of election cycles in the U.S. Lessons that can be applied throughout the world, about the need to build in strong security and privacy protections to the associated processes, systems, and physical components of elections and campaigns to strengthen democracy as well as to support verifiable and validated election results.
In October, 2020, he FBI reported verified election interference attempts and goals of Russia, Iran & domestic groups; often through candidates’ election campaign organizations and associated groups.
Lack of strong cybersecurity in elections campaigns is a soft, vulnerable spot targeted by many types of malicious actors in democracies throughout the world. In what ways? Through what kinds of interference tactics? How does strengthening security practices help to prevent these interference goals from being fulfilled?
Matt answers these questions, and more. Along with explaining the goal and mission for US CyberDome, and why US CyberDome well-suited to help fight interference with election campaigns.
Listen in as Matt provides insights, research findings, advice to campaigns, and describes the goals of US CyberDome to protect election campaigns during this conversation.
