Fighting the Right Battles

28And Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spake unto the men; and Eliab's anger was kindled against David, and he said, Why camest thou down hither? and with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know thy pride, and the naughtiness of thine heart; for thou art come down that thou mightest see the battle. 29And David said, What have I now done? [Is there] not a cause? 30And he turned from him toward another, and spake after the same manner: and the people answered him again after the former manner.

When we say or talk of a 'fight' we can rightly think of a struggle to overcome, eliminate, or prevent. We think of this so well that we oftentimes forget why or when to fight. Opposition does not always mean there's is a fight opportunity. This is one of the mistakes that have unseated our destinies; we have grown years older but are steps behind.

I like how David does it in this lovely Biblical extract. David's brother gave him an excellent opportunity to fight. But was this going to be the right battle to invest in? Note that battle here implies a struggle to overcome, eliminate, or prevent. According to a simple Google search, the word has it's origins in Middle English: from Old French bataille (noun), bataillier (verb), based on late Latin battualia ‘military or gladiatorial exercises’, from Latin battuere ‘to beat’. Okay, so would David have any reason to beat Eliab -his brother- in this battle opportunity?

The Bible says 'and he turned' from him. Strong's KJV+ tells me the Hebrew word here is cabab which means to turn about, go around, surround. In other words, David chose to ignore Eliab and the battle opportunity that he presented to him and asked once again for the reward that would be there for killing Goliath. In a manner of speaking David understood that the RIGHT BATTLES have rewards! Fighting Eliab and winning was not going to bring any profit, there was another battle opportunity with the chance of giving him a life's worth of reward - and he chose that battle.

That was the right battle to fight!!!

Quit now fighting your family, your boyfriend, your son, your daughter. Cabab!!!

Turn about, ignore that fake battle! Go around that person you think is your enemy, Eliab is not the target! No sir!!! There's a ripe foul mouthed Goliath who's head will look good after you smash it... And there's rewards plenty for your efforts! When I had this epiphany by God's special grace listening to Prophet Shepherd Bushiri, I realized just how much I was fighting the wrong battles. Now I'm fighting the success battles, the going to heaven battles, the being rich for Christ battles, the loving God and fighting evil battles, the getting married for Christ battles, the joy in the Lord battles; the right battles!!!
