Fighting Obesity

Fighting Obesity

Overweight and obesity are defined as?abnormal or excessive fat accumulation that presents a risk to health. So, how do we bring hope to the millions of Americans who are suffering from this deadly disease called obesity!

Yes, you will be eating less calories as you lose weight.?For most people, eating too many calories is what got you into trouble in the first place, so naturally, you will be eating less.?How do you determine that??At the Med-Fit office, we will help you calculate your basal metabolic rate.?This is the energy in calories that a person needs to keep the body functioning at rest.?This number affects how well you burn calories.?There are a variety of factors that affect this number including your muscle mass, age, hormones, gender, and genetics just to name a few.?If you have a true understanding of your individual caloric needs and how you metabolize, this number will make more sense to you, and it will give you a better marker to have the confidence of knowing how much to eat to maintain your weight.

Yes, your metabolism will slow down too when you lose weight. The problem with losing weight on your own is that often that weight loss is a combination of body fat, but also muscle, and water weight.?Individuals who lose more muscle are in deep trouble because the less muscle you have, the less calories you will burn.?That is why diet and exercise combined is important.?If you are only doing one or the other, you will continue to yo-yo.?Exercise will be important to build muscle to burn calories; healthy dieting will help you burn fat.?But you need to perform well in both.??

And finally, a majority of these patients often had a psychological component that they also had to overcome.?Although they were trained for months to learn how to exercise and eat properly, the therapy to overcome psychological behaviors needs more than a boot camp.?How are you managing your stress these days??Are you still calling yourself fat??Is food still your primary reward??It ultimately is your thinking pattern that can determine whether you succeed or fail, so are you ready to change your life for good?

Let's get started!
