Fighting the imagination crisis | a curious case of procrastination

"Everything is material" as one Armenian inner work teacher used to say.
In coaching, everything is material can be interpreted as:
The words ?? we use to explain our problems are material as well.
Language can be seen as the rough material to start a coaching session with ??
The aim of coaching and practice is to refine what became rough or hardened in us - physically and psychologically.
Below you find a fictional conversation based on multiple sessions I've had with different people on topic of "procrastination."
Here we used language as our tool to go deeper with the aim of creating a shift to see new options.
Where would you like to start with in today's session? ??
?? I have a problem with procrastination. Thank you for sharing that with me. Now that word ‘procrastination’ is used often right now. Just to make sure we understand each other, can I ask you what you mean by procrastination?
?? Well you know, you want to do all this work, you have all these projects you want to get out and, you know, you don’t end up doing it and you just postpone by scrolling on social media, doing chores, etc… You.
?? What do you mean? You say you. But I don’t really have that. I mean, I often postpone things as well but what you describe I don’t do.
?? Ok so, I want do all this work, I have all these projects I want to get out and I end up not doing it and I postpone by scrolling,…and I think it’s because when I was younger I... Now we are getting somewhere. I didn’t want to be rude but I want to stay as close to your experience, that’s why I interrupted you. For the moment, let us not go into why you think you procrastinate. I’ve noticed that analysing often can get us hypothetical theories but not necessarily much change in daily life. If that’s OK for you, let us go a bit more in the actual experience? What is it that happens when you want to do al this work, these projects and postpone it? What’s that like for you?
?? Well it’s like I’m holding something back. When you are procrastinating and you say it’s like you are holding something back, what’s that thing you are holding like?
?? What do you mean?
? I don’t want to consume your whole attention span - if you want to read or listen ?? to the whole script find out how we came to new options on my blog.
Visual solutions to life's problems
Our human imagination allows us to return to direct experience beyond 'borrowed', meaningless words.
Beyond the cultural meaning of words there's an actual personal experience.
Therefore: your unique struggle - for example procrastination - is not a struggle.
Movement, release and imagery practices can help to relax you deeply, connect you to your own voice and your own images behind the words.
They can lift you out ?? of a state of intellectual looping towards surprising solutions only your imagination can provide.

The image in your mental landscape that appears through inquiry can ?? offer new angles ?? provide sudden insight to solve re-occuring problems ?? sculpt novel thinking pathways.
These are major qualities of problem-solving.
By thinking through images ?? looking through them to the end, a solution might present itself that you were unable to 'think up'.
The solution can be manifestated as FRESH ACTION ?? in your ‘daily’ life.
Your words have magic in them if you look in, through and behind.
In the example above, the problem itself started to unpack solutions.
The problem was carrying solutions. It just needed patient inquiry.
The writer Italo Calvino ?? had in mind "a potential pedagogy of the imagination that would assist in the control of inner vision.”
The use of our active imagination is often a bit rusty because, for one, we are bombarded by images throughout the day on social media.
Ofcourse it’s hard to ‘hear our own voice’...
Beyond movement, stillness and somatic tools we practice mental imagery at the cleaning practice-themed workshops and coaching .
The aim is not just to learn and know new tools but to ?? APPLY the tools to stay on the move towards your life's aims and take concrete action.
