Fighting for a Cure: Insights from Anne Grey of the Alzheimer’s Association on Critical Mass Radio Show

Alzheimer’s affects millions across the nation every year. On the front line of fighting for an end to Alzheimer’s is the Alzheimer’s Association. With the help of the community they raise $630,000 through their walks and various events and services. Anne Grey joins us today to share more of the association. 1. Be cognizant of your cognitive health. The brain is a highly complex organ, and an incredibly vital one. As such, it is essential to be in close communication with your doctor about any changes you may notice in your cognition. It is also important to realize that, as Anne Grey explained, heart health is brain health. Stay active, keep an eye on your diet, and embrace moderation when it comes to what you put in your body.

2. Alzheimer’s doesn’t just have health impacts, but economic impacts too. According to Anne Grey, trillions of dollars are spent on Alzheimer’s and lost productivity that happens as a result of the disease. Getting people the care they need is expensive; it costs an average of $395,000 to care for someone living with Alzheimer’s, assuming they have an average lifespan. With that, unpaid caretakers often have to step back from their professional responsibilities to care for their loved ones, negatively impacting workplace productivity.

3. Strive for excellence. Anne Grey shared that her core philosophy is to be there for the people who need her and the Alzheimer’s Association, and to show up whenever and however possible. She added that the organizational culture of the Alzheimer’s Association is upbeat and positive, and that building relationships is a key component to how the organization serves the Alzheimer’s community so effectively.
