Fighting back against the Insurance Carriers- Underpaid or Denied claims

As Commercial Roofing contractors you see this happening everyday where the insurance carrier either low-balled, delayed or denied the Home or Business owners claim, yet you do nothing to move the claim forward and they win because you are unwilling to help your client fight back. I understand, because you have not taken the time to educate yourself or your field representatives on what could be done to win these roofing claims. The insurance carriers know this and this is why they deny so many claims. Several years ago Allstate hired a company called McKinsey to find out how they could increase profits to the shareholders and can you imagine what they come up with.

The McKinsey reports as they are called provided the following: Delay, Deny, stall, low ball, and fight the insured in court. By using these techniques they by enlarge wear down the home or business owner so they will give up and walk away from their claims. For information Google- Allstate and the McKinsey Reports.

From Good Hands to Boxing Gloves: The Dark side of Insurance is a book written by David Berardinelli and you will find very, very interesting. The insurance industry does not want you to know about this book.

Your question should be, How do we fight back?

You have a couple different avenues to help solve these issues. If the dispute is just over how much money then i would take this claim to Appraisal, in other word in the contract policy the home or business owner is allowed to invoke the appraisal clause in their policy.

If the dispute is a full denial, then have your clients call a real Public Adjuster , Real Public Adjusters are not married to roofers , insurance companies or attorneys in any way. Just to clear the air, many times people call themselves Public Adjusters but all they did is pass a test and are basically working for roofing contractors and do not have a clue about adjusting, scoping and estimating, interior or exterior damage etc.Real Public Adjusters can take a forensic look into the background of the claim to find issues and come up with a defense of factorial information that supports the payment of the claim.
