Fight or Flight...How Do You Handle A Crisis?
Michael Haltman, Hallmark Abstract Service
CEO, Hallmark Abstract Service (New York Title Insurance); Board Chair Combat Veteran Heroes To Heroes Foundation; Podcast Host 'Do You Ever Wonder?'
Change is Inevitable! It’s How We React to Change That Matters!
Fight or Flight! It’s an instinct we are faced with often, particularly now during the coronavirus pandemic!
There are of course many ways to tackle a crisis, as dictated by the nature of the amygdala ensconced in each one of our brains…
Some faced with the crisis of change might use the R.E.M. song ‘It’s the end of the world’ as their mantra, using the Flight mechanism and retreating into inaction.
Others, however, might use the Semisonic’s ‘Closing Time’ with the lyric 'Every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end’ as their guide to understanding the possibilities that emerge from change and flux, regardless of how severe those disruptions may be.
The Fighters, from Day 1 of a crisis, will proactively look for solutions and develop or discover the solutions that it takes to serve their clients!
Hallmark Abstract Service

4 年Great topic, Michael Haltman! The Amygdala is an instinct, but one that can be trained with mindfulness and mediation from what I understand.

4 年I've been very fortunate. My family has remained well, although my son just started his first year as a doctor in a hospital. On his first night, the corona virus floor was one of his responsibilities. He said in this particular hospital in Chicago, there were 100 Covid patients a few months ago, now, there are 21. I don't know if that change actually reflects cases going down or a redistribution of intakes. But, as for your "Fight or Flight" topic, I have networked with so many more people over the past few months than I have in the last several years. "Zooming" really gives you the ability to zoom around the world quickly, meeting dozens of people in an hour. I find meeting so many nice professional who offer help so very uplifting.
