In November 2018

16 women were killed by men.

6 of those women were killed after their 50th birthday.

3 of those women were killed by men they were personally connected to.

Tasneem Sheikh 62

Tasneem was killed by her husband, in her home in South London. She sustained head injuries caused by being hit over the head several times with a vase.

He pleaded guilty to manslaughter, by diminished responsibility. He was given an indefinite hospital order.

Her brother in law stated

“We will never be able to come to terms with what happened to Tasneem. The shock still reverberates throughout our family. She put her love and trust into someone, someone who would come to devastate the lives of multiple people, family members and friends alike, who remain ridden with grief.

She was known throughout her neighbourhood and community as a kind-hearted woman who strived to help everyone around her. She had so much love to give, a woman with a compassionate soul who sought to help those around her."

Maureen Watkins 75,

Maureen was killed by her son, at their home in Peckham, south-east London. She sustained multiple stab wounds in her back.

He was detained indefinitely under the Mental Health Act.

We don't know Maureen's story.

Jaqueline Allen 65,

Jaqueline was babysitting her 12 year old granddaughter at her daughter’s home in Kent. She was killed by her son-in-law who set the house alight. Her granddaughter survived the fire.

He was found guilty of murder and attempted murder. He was jailed for a minimum of 31 years.

There was a history of domestic abuse and a court order preventing him from going to the house.

Jaqueline's family issued a statement, which said:

'There are no words to express the sadness and loss of our beloved mother and grandmother.

‘Jackie would have given her last breath for us and she did that night.

‘Our whole world was taken from under us.

‘We are trying to rebuild our lives together as a family and now need time to grieve.’

Carrie...while these stories are incredibly disturbing and cause memories to flood back for me, I am immensely grateful that you have honoured their lives by sharing their stories. They were far more than just the abuse they suffered...they were all loving beautiful Women. Whenever I read someone's story I am always reminded how very easily my name and my tale could have been another name and another Woman whose life was taken. Thank you Carrie and thank you to the loved ones of the Women. ????????????
