In February 2016, 16 women were killed by men. 9 of those women were killed after their 50th birthday.
And 5 of those women were killed by men who they were personally connected to.
Geraldine Newman 51,
Geraldine, known as Gerry was killed by her husband. Their two children, Shannon, 12, and Shane, 6, were also stabbed to death by their father. He killed himself after killing his family.
He had a history of domestic abuse and had been convicted of assaulting Gerry in October 2013, he went to prison for 17 weeks in October 2013.
We don't know Gerry, Shannon and Shane's story, most of the media coverage focusses on the killer.
Caroline Andrews 52,
Caroline was strangled to death by her husband. Caroline was a teacher. They had 2 children and lived with Caroline's 95 year old father.
He pleaded guilty to murder and was given a life sentence with a minimum term of 15 years. He also admitted stealing £267,096 from his father-in-law, who had dementia and he had power of attorney over.
Sheila Jefferson 73,
Sheila and her husband Dennis, Jefferson, were killed due to head and neck injuries before their home was set on fire. They had sustained a vicious attack using a hammer and shotgun.
Sheila's 70 year old brother-in-law, was the prime and only suspect of killing them. He died of injuries sustained in the fire. It is believed the motive was financial.
Rose Hill 75 and her daughter, Julie Hill, 51.
Rose was killed by her grandson, and Julie was killed by the same man, her nephew. Post mortem results indicated that they had been subjected to pro-longed and particularly brutal attacks. The attacks were to some extent planned and sustained and brutal. There was a clear intention to kill both victims.
He admitted manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility and was sentenced to a life sentence with a minimum tariff of 15 years.
I intentionally do not use the killers names.

6 个月I have commented before but I want to reiterate my admiration of your work. I knew nothing of these ladies and their children. What screams at me through all of these tragic stories is the sense of entitlement that all the perpetrators had. These lost lives may give us an indication of what interventions we need to develop to begin putting a stop to this brutality and needless loss of lives. May they rest in peace.
