So it is the first Sunday in February…. Can you believe… it’s already been a month into the year of 2018, and I have survived (at least for now!) with my Sunday writing commitment :)
It is also the Sunday when I made it to our targeted timeline – we’ve closed the first round of new partners/ board directors for one of our companies.
I am so glad that I have chance to meet many talented people in my life, who share the same level of energy, mindsets and values. Or as one of my friends just told me about her new belief theory – we will meet people who have the same “waves” of “electromagnetic radiation”. Not sure if I fully understand that physics law. Does she really mean in a simple version that, likes attract likes… Or is it just some random luck???....
When I first came to New York, I was a very na?ve person, compared to all New Yorkers, or those whoever consider themselves as New Yorkers. I am probably still very na?ve now, I guess… But life in New York has taught me so many invaluable lessons, good or bad, ups or downs, positive or negative, which now I feel thankful for all of those experiences, regardless... It made me as I am today.
I suddenly thought of a random note that that I wrote five years ago:
“I was waiting on the street for about 15 min trying to catch a cab but none stopped. Suddenly I saw a cab trying to catch my attention on the other side of the On the way home, the driver started chatting and at some point, he told me:
- You know, you were standing on the wrong side of the street, thats why no cabs could stop. Next time, if you want to catch a cab, you have to stand on the right side ok?!
(he seems a nice person to tell me that)
- Ooh I see. Well, I take train more often so I didn't pay enough attention to that. Thank you, I will remember that.
- So how long have you been living in the city?
(weird question!)
- Well, about six months...
- I know it!
- Why?
- Because, you didn't act like people in NY
(hahh??)
- So... how would people in NY be supposed to act?
- Hmmm...they would be "a little bit" rude...
- Haha, so I have to act "a little bit rude" to be considered as a NY people, is that what you wanted to say?
- You know, I really wanted to meet you in 5 years. By that time, I will tell you if you have become a NY people...
Lol; really cool nyc driver... I should have got his number and call him in 5 years :))".
And 5 years has passed. I am not sure if that driver met me now, would he consider me to be one of these NY people?!?!....
But one thing now that I can tell for sure, I don’t keep waiting for cabs on the street under the cold weather for 15 mins ever again. And I don’t wait for another cab to signal their vacancies ever again.
Sometimes, I often hear people chatting in some random conversations like: you are so lucky to spot that location, which has increased xx% on capital gain; or you are so lucky to have that job; or you are so lucky to meet that perfect guy…
In my theory, “Luck is not as random as you think. Before that lottery ticket won the jackpot, someone had to buy it.” ― Vera Nazarian.
Note #1: I have a luck (which is definitely not a random one :) to meet and work with those incredible persons, who are devoted for social and community causes. They invited me to make a speech at a Biz Retreat event at a bank in New York in a few days, but unfortunately I could not make it this time, even though I wished. So I do look forward to the second chance!! Everyone is deserved a second chance!!! :):)
Note #2: Not sure if the lyrics are related to my content, but regardless, this is always one of my top favorite songs.
In New York
Concrete jungle where dreams are made of
There's nothing you can't do
Now you're in New York
These streets will make you feel brand new
Big lights will inspire you
Let's hear it for New York, New York, New York
And here is the song... Enjoy your Sunday, or your new week with full of energy and possibilities, wherever you are on this globe...
