FIFA scores agreement with DAZN for Club World Cup, Amazon hits 13.5 million views for NFL Black Friday game, plus other news...

1. In its latest report on equity, diversity and inclusion in the UK broadcasting industry, Ofcom found that 48 per cent of roles are now based outside London.

That figure is an increase from 46 per cent in 2023. The proportion is slightly higher in TV (49 per cent) than in radio (46 per cent).

The report goes on to state that while women remain well represented across the industry overall (50 per cent), despite a slight uplift in promotions, they’re still under-represented at a senior level (43 per cent).

2. There’s finally a broadcast partner for FIFA Club World Cup 2025 after football’s governing body signed an agreement with DAZN .

The landmark agreement will see all 63 matches, which involves 32 of the best clubs worldwide, live-streamed, free to view on DAZN globally, in multiple languages, and includes the possibility of sublicensing to local free-to-air linear broadcast networks.

Financial terms have not been released, but several reports suggest the deal has a value of $1 billion. The Financial Times reports the agreement is just for a single year, but gives DAZN first option on the 2026 competition.

3. Speaking at Content London, Graham H. , EVP Digital, Global Partnerships and COO of upcoming new label Zoo 55, announced that ITV Studios will launch The Graham Norton Show Channel on the Roku Channel in the US and Canada, along with three further new FAST channels.

The Graham Norton Show channel – featuring running episodes of the BAFTA-winning chat show – will launch on December 17th, just in time for the holiday season.

Additionally, ITV Studios and the Roku Channel will launch three further Canadian offerings in the New Year including Jeremy Wade’s River Monsters which sees the fishing detective discovering everything from monstrous sharks to killer catfish in dangerous waters; Tokyo Broadcasting System’s Ninja Warrior sports entertainment reality competition (pictured); and The Hotel Inspector which sees distinguished hotelier and businesswoman Alex Polizzi’s casting fresh eyes over a number of fading hotels and their owners to come to their aid.

4. Thinkbox has hired Wavemaker UK 's Elliott Millard to be its first chief strategy officer.

Millard, who will join commercial TV’s marketing body next year, is chief strategy and planning officer at Wavemaker UK.

He is a de facto replacement for Matt Hill , Thinkbox’s long-serving director of research and planning. Hill will join Sky Media UK next month as director of insight and measurement.

Thinkbox decided to retire Hill’s role and create a chief strategy role after a review of its requirements. However, like Hill, Millard will lead Thinkbox’s research and planning team, which includes head of partnerships Zoe Harkness, head of research Anthony Jones and head of client services Rupen Shah.

Millard will report to Thinkbox CEO Lindsey Clay and sit on the Thinkbox board, which has a collective role in evolving the vision and strategic focus of the organisation.

5. 亚马逊 .com Inc.’s streaming coverage of the National Football League (NFL) 's Black Friday game between the champion Kansas City Chiefs and the Las Vegas Raiders drew an audience of 13.5 million viewers, a 41% increase from the company’s first such broadcast last year.

The game, which the Chiefs won by a score of 19-17, kicked off at 3 p.m. New York time, smack in the middle of the post-Thanksgiving shopping day. Last year’s 34-13 victory by the Miami Dolphins over the New York Jets, drew an audience of just 9.6 million.

6. Netflix 's subscribers passed 10 million in Japan in the first half of this year with the streaming firm's Japanese-language programming grabbing attention in the growing market.

The subscriber base has doubled in the last four years and the streamer has recently released a string of well-received Japanese-language shows tackling subjects that set it apart from Japanese broadcasters.

"This year in particular we're happy that productions such as 'Tokyo Swindlers', 'The Queen of Villains' and reality-romance show 'The Boyfriend' have been watched by so many people," said Kaata Sakamoto , vice president of content for Japan.
