FieryFX Core Values
In my last post, I shared why Core Values even matter for your business, and today I am sharing our Core Values here at FieryFX to give you an idea of what’s important to us and how you can form your own Core Values. First up:
Give a Damn
This might seem like an obvious value, but I’ve found that…it’s not. I’ve found that I need to express this sentiment, and in just this fashion, so people can really know what we are about.
“Give a Damn” is what we are doing in the world, it’s what we are doing with clients, how we choose clients to work with us, how we choose team members, how we show up as ourselves- we give a damn!
This is actually rooted in something I experienced in my life. The first business my parents owned, failed. And with that I realized how important marketing and technology are for business success. I saw how critical attracting clients, having people coming to you because they want what you are offering, and then being able to service them effectively with technology is to the success of a small business.
And having these pieces aligned means you, the small business owner, can go out in the world to do what you do best.
That’s one reason “Give a Damn” is one of our Core Values, not only is it who we are, it’s what we want to offer you so you can go out into the world doing what you love most.
Figure It Out & Get Sh*t Done
Now that might seem a bit abrupt, but it is one of the things that I am so passionate about.
There really is no reason to put off doing things– everything is figureoutable- to quote Marie Forleo.
And we just like to get stuff done, because nothing happens until something is actually out in the world.
Brave the Storm
Things in business don’t always go as planned do they?
Ok, that’s a rhetorical question, but when the storm comes, what happens?
Brave the storm is what we do.
This actually comes from an experience with my husband out on Lake Pleasant in AZ. We like to boat and one afternoon we were out with some friends when a large storm rolled in.
We decided to head in from where we were in the lake, I was captain, and I knew that we were prepared, that we had the knowledge and equipment we needed, and so we braved the storm.
We got to where we needed and actually helped a few other boaters.
I say all this to demonstrate what we do with our clients and why it’s a core value: it’s not all fun in the sun, when things don’t go right, when an unexpected item comes up, we do the work, we’re prepared, and we are going to brave the storm together.
We’re proud of this value and that we know we show up for our clients when they need us most.
Judgement Free Zone
When do you feel that you do your best work?
A. When people are looking over you and/or criticizing you.
B. When you feel like you can focus on the work at hand and not worry about being judged.
Alright, maybe that wasn’t a fair set of options, but hopefully you get my point. None of us work best when we feel we are being judged.
That’s why one of our Core Values is “Judgement Free Zone.”
I’ve experienced that many business owners get really uptight and uncomfortable when talking about marketing and technology because they feel like there’s a way they “should” be doing it that they just don’t know about, they feel very judged by all the information out there or by the way that people have talked to them about these topics before.
That doesn’t fly here. We really believe that no one is their best self in a judgement zone. Safety is one of the things we crave as human beings to be able to show up for each other and what we strive to achieve internally and with our clients.
Velvet Hammer
What does the term “Velvet Hammer” mean to you?
This is actually a nickname I got from my Biz BFF, Stacey Harris.
Here’s what it means: direct and honest communication with grace.
Because business is hard. And we don’t need to dance around what needs to be said, it’s best to just pull the band aid off.
But we don’t want to have that happen and have someone feel judged or icky or like there isn’t space for them to be wrong.
We’re all going to be in a situation where something needs to be said, so our take is “let’s do it,” let’s have that honest, open, direct, and candid communication, but with grace and understanding.
And that’s how we communicate with our clients, how we communicate internally, and how we want to communicate with the world- kinda like these videos.
